So will the Craig students be punished for missing school? I hope they did not call in sick! How many of you have used a sick day when you were not sick? I bet if you are really honest with yourself it would be all of us. People should be able to use their time off the way they want. It is like using vacation time and not going out of town anywhere "on vacation". Dr's write bogus notes for people all the time.....why should this be different?

Why be so hard on the teachers for taking a sick day when they are not "sick". I am not a teacher and have used sick days when I have not been sick. If you all look at yourself honestly almost everyone has done it at some point in their employment. Do you consider yourself a fraud?

My teacher friend sent me this....
Are you sick of high paid teachers? Teachers’ hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or 10 months a year! It’s time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do - baby sit! We can get that for less than minimum wage.
That’s right. Let’s give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked; not any of that silly planning time, or any time they spend before or after school. That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 to 3:00 PM with 45 min. off for lunch and plan — that equals 6 1/2 hours).
Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children.
Now how many do they teach in day…maybe 30? So that’s $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day. However, remember they only work 180 days a year!!! I am not going to pay them for any vacations.
LET’S SEE…. That’s $585 X 180= $105,300 peryear. (Hold on! My calculator needs new batteries).
What about those special education teachers and the ones with Master’s degrees? Well, we could pay them minimum wage ($7.75), and just to be fair, round it off to $8.00 an hour. That would be $8 X 6 1/2 hours X 30 children X 180 days = $280,800 per year.
Wait a minute — there’s something wrong here! There sure is!
The average teacher’s salary (nation wide) is $50,000. $50,000/180 days = $277.77/per day/30 students=$9.25/6.5 hours = $1.42 per hour per student–a very inexpensive baby-sitter and they even EDUCATE your
kids!)
WHAT A DEAL!!!!

Did all the people that voted for Walker really know this would be his plan? Did they know this is how he was going to balance the budget? I know of several people who would not have voted for him had they been told this was his plan. Union and non-union.
From what I have read.......this plan will not return any money to the average tax payers pocket. We will continue to pay the same amount of taxes and get "nothing" in return. Your state taxes will not go down next year because of this bill, in fact they may go up!!

Do not assume I am a teacher because of my user name. I have taken plenty of low paying jobs even after getting a masters degree becaue I had student loans to pay off. I could not find that perfect job and did not have any choice but to take 2 "low paying" jobs to make ends meet. I think more people need to cut back and live within their means. I just do not see people I know on UC doing that. They expect to live the same life they did while making "good money". That is just not possible now.

That is my point. People on UC will not take a $10-12 an hour job because "it does not pay". They can make more sitting at home doing nothing and not paying for child care then working. If UC is cut, that $10-12 an hour job would look pretty good. I think when people say they "would love a job" what they really mean is they would love the perfect job and none of us have that!

Why not take that low paying job? I bet she would take it if she had NO free money coming in. Maybe she would even take 2 of them to make ends meet. Kind of like the people who are helping her keep her unemployment coming.
Also, why do we keep having to hear about women being the Mother of 2 or 3 or 5 children. Where are the Fathers?

Sounds like they should keep the dog and get rid of the chief!! It was his mistakes that led to the problems and now it looks like he wants to blame everyone else.

On Layoff notices stun teachers

The Evansville teachers, school board and the community have always had a very positive, professional working relationship. I am not aware of the number of months, weeks, days or hours it has taken in the past to reach agreements because they always seem to work out the differences without having to go to the local media to “air out the problems”. Both sides have always seemed to do what was fair and right for everyone in the best interest of the students. My hope it that other communities use this as an example of how to proceed.
