A fun John story: Jan. 1997. John was covering the Super Bowl in New Orleans, and I was working for TNT...we had the NFL in those days. I invited John to our Saturday night party...this was back when John was carrying the extra weight, had the long hair, and liked a few beverages. I was talking to clients (all of them in coat and tie, etc--pretty stuffy group), when John emerged from the crowd sweating like crazy. He grabs me and says "Oh my God, this is the best party I've ever been to in my life! ZZ Topp just showed up, and they're playing with the Allman Brothers! This is awesome!!!" As he headed back into the party, one of the guys says to me "A Janesville friend?" and I said "Yea, glad he's having fun." I've always had that image of John whenever I think of him, and always will...he had a great spirit, and now others in heaven are getting to enjoy it. His time here was too short, but well spent.
