Sorry to see this course lose it's required status at the high schools. The up-to-date, accurate information presented in these classes is not easily available elsewhere for these students. I agree we need to be proactive for our kids.

Take away the kids' cell phones, ipods, mp3 players, etc., so that they might listen and learn. The use of these things is rampant in the high schools. I know, I know.... just tell them to put the darn things away. Yea, right!

Participation fees for sports and extra activities are something to consider. After all, the child who benefits should be the child who pays... I'm tired of paying for someone else's kid to be on a sports team.

Happycamper, I like what you said. It's time we stop coddling every kid who has an attitude and appears to not want an education. Can you really MAKE someone do something if they don't want to? Get rid of the alternative schools and save some money.

Notajanesvillelifer - The students were very cooperative and patient while the administration investigated the problem and ultimately made the decision to send them home. No way did the students "just start walking out of the school". They were directed from the administration. I witnessed very good behavior on the part of the kids.
