On Breastfeeding Bill: Unnecessary or Needed Support?

It seems to me that people are taking this bill out of context. The purpose is to prevent mothers and babies from being harrased in public, which can severly damage the breastfeeding realtionship. When a mother feels that it is not safe to nurse in public she then tries to express milk and use a bottle to deliver the milk to the baby. This creates a downward spiral of missed feedings, a decreased supply, and using formula.
This bill is not being enacted to prevent people from sharing thier feelings about breastfeeding. To debate is good, but we must realize that the reason for this law is well founded, mothers have been harrased and run out of stores becasue they were trying to do what is best for thier child. To breastfeed on demand means that your child knows his needs are being met and trust is developing, all of which means less crying you hear in public!
So while I hope that every mother will do her best to make an informed decison about whehter or not to breastfeed, we must protect the mothers who have made this decison until our culture can see that breast can truly carry out two purposes. So guys, feel free to be attreacted to breasts, but also remember that sometimes they have a job to do and shouldn't be disturbed.

Yay Don_Diego! I completely agree, shouldn't the health of the living be as important for these so called "pro-lifers" as the health of a fetus?

Maxdetail, I ddin't post my story here to show that I support the pro-life movement, it is to show that a woman, young or old must make her own decisons, without being guilted by those who disagree with here. I stuggle with the choice I made everyday, and I have in the past thought it would have been easier to have an aborthion. Now that I have my son I must live with my decison and I love as much as I can, but I will always wonder. Another woman who decides to have an abortion will wonder as well, and we should all respect her decison. So please, don't assume I'm like you, and I don't need your blessing, not when they come from someone so quick to judge and belittle people.
Also, I beleive life doesn't start until the fetus is viable, so any abortion before that should be legeal. I think that if you can be at peace with yourself, that is the most important thing.

It's sad that women's health care is being dictated by a bunch of old men. These are personal choices, one's that have many veriables and shoudl be thought over before being made. Once a women makes her decison, we should support her through it, because either way the communtiy will be effected in some way. I for one decided not to get an abortion when I became pregnant in high school, because I weighed my options and relized that I could support a child, with the help of my family. If i became pregnant again, I might make a diffrent decision. But I would be making it, not someone with an agenda in Washington or Rome.

Good article, and I'm glad he points out that is perfectly fine for the girls to discuss religion on their own time. When you put on that uniform you are representing your school and you need to respect the decisoins your administration makes. Then Saturday morning you can talk about how you don't agree with their ideas :)

I love the WIC program! It has been such a help for my son and I, especially since they are so supportive of breastfeeding moms.

I heard many preformers say great things about the planning and exacution of the faire this year, and as a preformer myself, it was a pleasent experince.
Honestly ladystardust, you can let this drop already, the faire was a big hit in Janesville, in spite of your bashing. YOU LOST! The faire and the community won by enjoying an affordable event that brought in bussiness.

I agree with you compleatly mrcody, the fact that we trust these people with our healthcare is sad. It is humurous to have something stuck in some one's bum, but as nurses these people were intrusted with a job, and they failed.

JustAskMe- as stated in my post:When a mother feels that it is not safe to nurse in public she then tries to express milk and use a bottle to deliver the milk to the baby. This creates a downward spiral of missed feedings, a decreased supply, and using formula.
The more feedings a baby misses, the more a mother's supply decreases, and she can't go pump while out in public if she's supposed to be feeding a baby at the same time. And besides that, when a mother is being discrete, why should she hide what she is doing? This is the best way to feed you baby, and if more people see it in action it will become the norm once again.
