SuperDave - if you think race no longer matters do a google search for 'white power' or 'aryan.' Look at the sites that come up, and see how they write about President Obama. Race remains an issue.

The melodramatic writing style of this article is in bad taste. I think that the 'journalist' is trying to express the drama of the event, but the crime is dramatic enough in itself. You should treat your readers, and more importantly, those involved in this real life tragedy with more respect by avoiding writing this as if it is fiction. It reads as if it's spoken word poetry, or a screenplay. The style distracts us from the fact that many real lives have been forever changed in a very serious way and that one person has been killed.

SuperDave, my point is that public means government. These spaces are designated by acts of government and maintained with government funding. Spaces like this provide places for events like this Kiwanis fundraiser (which I of course do not object to, I think it's great) or 4th of July Celebrations. It's a positive thing that governments do, especially in the City of Parks. A larger point is that I'm tired of folks who make trite comments like yours that imply that government is inherently bad. It's not inherently good or bad, it's us. The government provides so many services to all of us, services which make it possible to live a relatively safe life in a strong community. What Kiwanis did is great, but to imply that it required no government assistance is naive.

SuperDave - it all happened in a PUBLIC park which is maintained with government funding. I'm sure the city has to approve use of the space, one of the most visible and memorable places in Janesville which people see as they drive over the bridge built and maintained with government money.

GRRRR. MY Tax Money. GRRRR. Taxes. GRRRRRRR. Lefties. GRRRRR.
Could we have some original complaints please? This seems like a reasonable idea, at least to float and consider. My employer actually grows food on the property to be used in the cafeteria. It's a good use of space and allows what might otherwise be processed or frozen food to be fresher. It's a good idea. Further, small farms and farming are very important to the history of this country, so I think it would be a nice symbolic gesture to our history as well.

Next time someone accuses the Gazette of being part of the Liberal Media remember that this ridiculous, character assassination, opinion piece was allowed to get over 1000 comments and pop up on the front page for 7 weeks.

"It’s unusual to see an albino deer, even more unusual to get a chance to shoot one."
Now it'll be that much more unusual. The disregard for life displayed by this story (killing a rare animal, leaving it over night) is troubling. I guess white deer aren't as special as white buffalo.

The Gazette should stop publishing this guy's writing, and maybe all opinion columns. Instead of using this space to add to the angry din our public debate has become, use this space to provide the public with objective analyses of proposed policy. Or, if it must be political in nature, ask the area's elected officials to use the space to outline their positions.
