On The myths and truths of domestic violence
Posted on August 28 at 7:13 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
OfficerFriendly1 posted a link to a "study" that is indeed an interesting read - sort of. But before I say more about this - a bit of a disclaimer.
I'm a male who has been stalked, and had to take restraining orders out twice against a woman who wouldn't leave me alone. I've been in one relationship in which I took gobs of verbal abuse and a small amount of physical abuse. So I know from personal experience that women sometimes abuse men.
Back to the "study." It makes a lot of claims that are unverified in the context of the report. The report is undated (!). The report is published under the organization name: Family Resources & Research. Typing that search term into a good search engine doesn't find an organization by that name. Odd, since it appears in the organization's own report.
The report as presented quotes a lot of other reports without saying who did them or where they come from. So, unfortunately, even if everything in the report is true, there's no way to verify a lot of it.
The report's basic premise is that women are responsible for as much domestic violence as men. While I tend to believe woman-on-man violence is under-reported, I'm not prepared to believe the quoted (or were they made up?) statistics.
All that said ... Yes, it's an interesting read. Just be sure you have the salt nearby - you might need a few grains.
