Brewernut: I used to work at Preferred Pets back then, over 15 years ago. I can think of a couple of reason why the store may have stopped featuring a cat on the weekends. One, the RCHS would come whenever the felt like it to pick up the cat. This was usually on Tuesday or Wednesday. I was never sure of their definition of 'weekend.' And two, the RCHS kept sending sick cats into the store. People would stick their fingers in the cage to pet the cat, then go stick those same fingers into the small animal cages. I think four rabbits died before I saw another cat in the store again.

This article and these comments suggest that there is officially no such thing as "common sense" anymore. The latter half of the list reads like the student dress code when I was in school. It's no longer "do as I say, not as I do."

On Mounds casts off humane society

Preach on, Brother Vader! I highly doubt those who are so quick to drop Mounds from their shopping trips have ever stepped foot inside the RCHS or had to deal with anyone from there on some level.
All I'm hearing from people who "support" the RCHS is that they will no longer shop at Mounds. So... how does that help the RCHS? It doesn't. If all of you care so much, then why am I not reading things like, "instead of shopping at Mounds, I will donate money/my time/food/litter to the RCHS." Now excuse me, I have to go to Mounds for cat food.
