Is it better for the bank to just go under than to be sold - even to a foreign bank? No. The only reason the foreign bank is the one buying it is because they were the highest bidder. People - at least someone bought it! It's not a bad thing - and it doesn't guarantee layoffs, most often the employees are offered the option of staying on. This is not necessarily a bad thing - it's the nature of the beast, it's what banks do. It's a business - like any other business. If they are not making money, they are going to look for a buyer.

This is a case of the system failing. Perhaps if he was given an actual consequence for the FIRST DUI, he wouldn't have had the opportunity to get 7. There is no reform in prison, there is "rehab" in jail. Taking away his ability to pay restitution and earn a living when he's out again in a few years - how does that help anyone?
Wannabe - give me a break, your knowledge of the case is limited and it shows.

He was a funeral director BEFORE those other things happened wannabe. I don't understand the Gazette's timing decision to post this story - Dave is currently serving time, why kick him when he's down? His funeral home has already been sold.

If you look at the WI Circuit Court website - there are still charges pending against Kari, her husband and the horse friend. There is a 12-day jury trail scheduled for late August/early September. On step at a time. 2.5 is an extremely light sentence - however, it was her first time. I AM NOT CONDONING HER ACTIONS, however - the system is the flaw here, look how many people here in Wisconsin with 5, 6, 7, 8 and more DUIs who have served little or no time. It will be interesting to see what becomes of the other people involved, in particular her husband. There is no way he couldn't have known the extra money wasn't coming from her secretary position. They live in a trailer - where did the money go? I'm betting it's still out there, or at least a good portion. Kari is also completely uneducated (we went to the same high school) - my understanding is that once she begins working again, she can petition the court to have the $15K reduced and based upon her salary. Just like child support - restitution is capped.

The employees will not necessarily loose their jobs - however, remember it IS a business. Businesses need to make money. There is a reason that bank was sold in the first place - and that was because it wasn't making money. Would it make sense for the new owners to keep on the key people that may have contributed to the issue in the first place, probably not. Also - it would make sense for the new owners to bring in at least a few of their own people during the change-over times. It's not an emotional situation - it's just business. I think some of you are forgetting that. This doesn't have to be a bad thing - change isn't always bad. Resisting and fighting is the what's bad.
