On McPoland loses his battle with cancer

My deepest and heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of John's family and friends. Memories are a wonderful thing. I always enjoyed listening to John and Mike "debate" their opinions over sports, they both were very passionate. John has touched many lives, what an awesome way for him to live on - with a scholarship in his name.
In my thoughts and prayers.

On Did Janesville schools do right with Obama speech?

Posted on September 11 at 6:14 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I'm very disappointed in our school district's decision and the parent's of all students who turned this into a three circus. It's OK to send our high school children to Washington DC to learn about political issues (with parental approval). It's OK to have mock presidential races in our schools during a presidential race (without parental approval- did any parent sign permission slips during the last mock presidential race?). But it's not OK to show our president the respect of that office to listen to what he has to say? I agree this should have been a perfect opportunity to be used as a civic's lesson and what a great opportunity to discuss at the dinner table. You say the British wouldn't have any trouble taking this country back. Maybe or maybe not but it seems the young and old of the European countries not only know their own history but America's as well. How many of your children know anything about American history or for that matter what's going on in America now. Thanks for sharing the above website. Let's hope the next generation of voters will be informed of both sides of aisle and can make informed decisions. I'm wondering when President Bush made his speech to school children did the school's need parental consent then also?

On Thirteen head to sectionals

the first article stated six were going to sectionals now it states 12 - actually 13 are going - tjncj your math is correct!! 7 from Parker and 6 from Craig if you're not sure go to WIAA standings and count the top 4 place finishers again. Good luck wrestlers!!

On Parker wrestling-room plans to change

Posted on March 12 at 4:53 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

In reading the comments there are still many people that don't understand what the parents of the wrestlers and wrestlers were asking for. To sum this up, in the referendum a wrestling room just like the padded practice room that we have was in the plans and after we as voters voted on the referendum it was taken out. What was suggested was to have mats hanging from the ceiling in the new gym area that wrestling was to share with gymnastics. Each night before practice the wrestlers would have to lower the hoist with the mats on, unroll the mats, tape the mats, clean the mats, practice, then untape the mats, roll the mats and put them back on the hoist to be raised above the gym. How safe and practical is that solution? Wrestlers would not be able to stay after practice and practice or practice off season, not to mention how would they practice when gymnastics had a meet? The school system was ready to spend at least $20,000.00 on 1 hoist and would 1 hoist have been enough? The parents of the wrestlers didn't ask for this expense, just status quo - the lower level padded wrestling room. I've heard and read that the area where the wrestling practice room is where they wanted to put in lockers and showers. Single stall showers - 16 to be exact. There are 30 people in a gym class and I challenge the school to survey the kids and find out how many students actually shower at school. How many of your children can shower in 5 minutes at home? That's the amount of time they have to shower after gym class - 5 minutes to shower and 5 minutes to change their clothes. And how about the 2500 square feet that the coaches need for a coaches room with showers? Each coach now has their own shower in their offices. I thank the school board for listening to us parents and wrestlers and having the forsight to look at the future. Athletes know and understand that they are students first and are held accountable for their grades. They learn discipline and priorities to juggle school, athletics, relationships, jobs and just plain life. To discount athletes and in this case wrestlers and their passion to fight for a program that has allowed anyone that goes out for wrestling to participate just doesn't get it and unfortunately never will and that's pretty sad.
