On Sanford might pull out of Janesville

Posted on August 5 at 1:50 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Maybe, just maybe, it's not too late for Newell to reconsider moving JVL jobs to Mexico for the small savings they'll reap in labor costs. I urge everyone- everyone who cares about keeping Sanford operating here in Janesville- to contact your State Senator, your Congressman, your Governor. You can google the name and be given an email link for contacting them. Email Newell President & CEO, Mark Ketchum @ mark.ketchum@newellco.com directly- ask him how the cost savings of such a move fits in to their corporate identity. Make some noise (respectful, polite noise), Janesville. Let Newell know how strongly we feel about keeping this part of their business in the United States of America. Do it now, before you post another blog. Do it before it's too late.

On Fair-goers spend less than usual in tough year

The Gazette booth at the Fair was giving out pens made by the Hub pen Company. With the Local Matters emphasis the Gazette promotes, it begs the question- why didn't they choose to use pens decorated right here in Janesville by the employees at Sanford? Given the headlines today about the possibility of loosing the plant here, the Gazette has to bear some responsibilty for not supporting our local business. It DOES matter where we use our purchasing dollars, and the Gazette let our community down

On Officials speak out on GM

John Beckord was quoted recently several times saying that our region wasn't experiencing the rough economic times the rest of our country was, words that should haunt him now as he appears to be the one with his proverbial pants down. He has not been much more than a talking 'head' concerning economic development for Forward janesville for a good long time- renovating a building downtown and not attending to business has not made him an effective leader for our area as companies close all around us....yes, Janesville will recreate it's economic base in time and get through the tough times ahead, but we need real leaders who will work hard, daily, and not leaders who coast by on position alone.
