I know. Laziness makes me crazy. Take this gem, right there next to this very link on the front page: "Students the art of stained glass art in new class"
Or does that make some kind of esoteric sense that I am missing?

"Separation of church and state doesn't really work"? You would know better than the Founders, I suppose. The question is, WHICH church? Does this change with each elected body? Majority Catholic means we're all Catholic now? Jewish? Oh, this year we're Methodists? Ojibwe? Muslim? Take your pick. The Founders fled religious persecution. You want to reinstate it. "Doesn't really work." Ridiculous.

I'm not a Christian. I rolled my eyes for a minute when a local pastor objected to a trick-and-trunk event to be hosted by a charity he was involved with and it put a stop to all discussion (it was to be geared toward children in need). Shame on me. I don't agree with his position, but it is a sincerely-held belief for him, and I think we should leave each others' spiritual beliefs alone and not, for instance, poke fun at them in headlines of blogs.

"Is this incident symptomatic of today’s political climate?"
It certainly is. This being a climate where the hugely vast majority of stakeholders feel less and less like someone's listening to them and addressing their needs. When it ends is when voters again become as important to those in power as corporations and other deep pockets. Don't think for a minute that municipal elected officials aren't just as prone (pun intended) as the bigger politicians. The dynamic is different (sometimes) but the result is the same.

I would not want that liability, either. You want a public parking space, city has to purchase. Even this 99%er can figure that one out. D'oh.
