On Evansville police seeking accreditation for department

Posted on April 9 at 6:35 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

The Evansville’s Police Department is one of the best and most understanding around. I have always known Scott, Officer Laufenberg, and Lieutenant Koehler to be very helpful and understanding. When my kids were growing up they were no angels and all 3 took the time (as did Lt Phillips) to look at the big picture and work with us as a family.

I’m glad we have officers walking the beat at bar time and actually checking on people before they may drive home. Even if they aren’t driving it’s OK in my book to check someone out if they are out at that time. My parents always said and I tell my kids, if you have nothing to hide then who cares.

THANK YOU Evansville Police Department for putting yourself in harms way on a daily bases to protect our homeland. It seems that the police only get credit when something big or bad happens. But everyone should thank you all everyday for all that you do. If you didn’t do what you do on a daily bases then you wouldn’t be there when you’re needed.

On Dean Health to lay off 90

Posted on April 8 at 2:02 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Wow how does everything turn into Mercy bashing in this town???

From what I have been reading Mercy is retaining their employees even when they cut programs that are outdated for the times because of other providers can and do provide the same service. I haven’t read anywhere that anyone has been laid off at Mercy even with all the economic issues around Rock County at this time. They seem to be looking at the bigger picture and growing the services that are needed in this area while cutting back on duplicate services.

It’s also rumored that the non-patient care staff being let go at Dean are in Madison are from their Billing Department. Janesville should be fairly safe in that aspect as most of those old Riverview jobs were moved to the Madison office years ago.

On Defeat of bailout frustrates UAW members

"When some of these senators who have been criticizing this agree to take their wage cuts, we'll take ours,"??? REALLY!! Good sound bite for the UAW but as a taxpayer that has to do the bailing, I’m not liking what I hear. BE REAL AND WAKE UP TO THE REAL WORLD MIKE. I’ve had to change jobs and take cuts in benefits and wages. Who do you represent now??? Just the UAW or all taxpayers??

You may be the one who’s “completely uneducated” about all of this if you don’t feel making further concessions should be part of using our taxes for a bailout. As a taxpayer who has to bail out the private companies and their workers, I want to see real change and I feel getting the UAW pay & benefit packages under control is part of that if they want my tax money. Once again, it’s poor poor GM, Ford, & Chrysler employees while the LEAR and others employees suffer in the real world. By the way, it’s the others in the real world that are bailing them out in case you have forgotten.

Having a “long history of concessions” and making concessions to save the companies and jobs now are two different things. Real families make concessions every day and will continue to do so in order to take responsibility for their families. Just because they did it in the past doesn’t mean they don’t have to do it again now. What makes the UAW any different???

No jealousy or envy here and I’m not blaming the UAW for what they got in the past… just a hard working taxpayer that wants their tax dollars spent with a little thought and planning involved. The past is the past and it’s time for some real change not more wasteful spending.

On Lake dredging bids well under $2 million

Qualified engineering study and companies looking to keep their payroll going are two different things. It looks and sounds like supply and demand is helping Evansville’s budget this time around as the equipment isn’t being used right now to build too many new roads and companies want to keep their skilled labor employed. I don't see anything fishy or strange about that.

On Wisconsin regulators say no to new power plant

Posted on November 11 at 1:49 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

There is no such thing as clean coal as it's just a term the coal people made up. There are cleaner burning coal plants but they still produce acid rain. Also enough with the natural gas.... if there is so much out there then get it to our houses now and lower the price we are paying for it.

On Heating costs up but not as much as feared

Mr. T. Boone Pickens, why would I want to fuel my car with natural gas if the increased demand would cause me to have to spend more to heat my house in the winter???

On Evansville celebrates new park

Posted on September 24 at 3:39 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

It really is a great and much needed park. Evansville out grew Lake Leota Park years ago and the money they are putting into the new park is not taking away from Lake Leota Park as they have also made major improvements over the last couple of years.

I see the new park every day as I drive by the entrance and it seems to always have 10-30 kids and parents there and most seem to be walking so there must have been a need for a park on the Westside of town. I’ve also seen soccer games & practices taking place which I feel is a great way for kids to stay out of trouble and families to enjoy time together. It’s also great that it’s strictly a daytime park without lights so it’s peaceful at night.

In my opinion the people that planned and followed through for this much needed and used park did a great job and should be applauded as it’s a win-win for Evansville. More green space in the middle of the different westside subdivisions and a place for kids to stay out of trouble.
