On Disparity in workplace smoking

Posted on March 12 at 10:01 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Most often I do not comment. We are becoming a socialist country. The person that owns this business should decide on if they want no smoking or smoking, if they want union or non union etc. It is their hard earned money that started this business and keeps it running. If you go into a place and it is either smoking or nonsmoking and you do not like what way it is leave. Same goes with workers if you do not like smoking and you apply to work there knowing it is a smoking place do not work there same with nonsmoking. It is becoming where no one owns anything. The government jumps in and decides how you are going to run your business yet it is not their money running the business. The more rules the government puts on us it makes this country more socialist every day.

Bring wages in line with those of Japanese Auto Companies? We bail out the banks that started this whole down slide by loaning money to those who could not aford to pay it back and they did this knowingly. The auto companies would not have been in this position if the economy did not go where it went. I am so sick of people saying wages have not gone backwards. 40 years ago 12 per hour was good money. Good luck on finding that now yet look at the cost of food, energy, cars, houses and so forth 40 years ago to now. Everyone taking pay cuts to keep their job and yet wages are NOT going backwards.

On GM workers to vote on contract Friday

Posted on August 21 at 10:59 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

What is wrong with you people that bash GM. 40 years ago $12.00 per hour was good money at most jobs. Today you are lucky if you can find that wage. Employers say that is too high, yet look at the cost of living now compared to 40 years ago. Do your research. 40 years later people are still stuck at the same wages. Wages have gone backwords NOT forward. If you think that you are not making enough money than get a different job with better pay. It is none of anyones business what someone else makes. GROW UP

Who ever is responsible for paying the credit card bill should be fired. Did they ask for receipts? All receipts should show what was purchased and for how much. Sure would not want that person doing my bookkeeping. Just turn in a bill and have it paid and for 3 years. This is just stupidity.

Hire new people and pay them 50% less. Wages are going backwards while everything increases. Stop the companies from going over seas for cheep labor. Who is going to be left to buy the stuff when they ship it back. We are all unemployed because all the jobs went out of the usa.

I would not have a problem with posting my name. Maybe some people would think harder about what they say if they had to say who they are. Maybe then they would become wiser on what and how they have to post a comment. The majority of the comments have nothing to do with the story as a whole.

On Raise the state's minimum wage?

Posted on January 15 at 9:01 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

raising the min. wage will not put the small employer out of business. Wages have gone backwards. 14 years ago making $12.00/hour was good money. Today you are lucky if you can find that pay. Everything goes up except pay. The government has let all our jobs go over seas for cheep labor then let them ship it back here for us to buy. Well if they keep going who is going to be able to afford to buy the stuff. The government is slowly but surely taking away our rights. First it is telling our business how they have to run it (non-smoking, etc), the restraurants, they have to make smaller portions and list fat/calories because we are not smart enough to put our fork down. One day the americans will wake up and say hey what happened we have no rights the government even tells us what to eat, etc. The government is slowly taking away our rights and no one is paying attention, they just think yea make the business owner go smoke free. Last I knew smoking was legal. This is not about smoking either. It is about the government taking away our rights. Pay attention more rights will be taken away. Sorry if words are misspelled.

I manage apartment buildings and have a strick rule about kids playing in the parking lot. Parking lot means parking lot not playground area. Why is a 6 year old riding a bike in the parking lot? That is like sending them in the street to ride. Parking lots are very dangerous and it is very hard to see adults let alone little kids. Where were the parents of that poor little 6 year old and why were they letting her play/ride in a parking lot? I wonder if all the parents are still letting the kids ride their bikes in the parking lot? That alone makes no sense.
