On A Mom's Fantasy

Sweet and touching, Brenda. Our days are such a mix as SAHMs: ups and downs, sweet moments and challenging ones, and you capture that wonderfully. Interesting how our fantasies change over time!

I'll definitely have to check out this bookstore. I'm always looking for great bookstores! I heard the author on NPR recently talking about this book. It sounds like a good read.

On Cookies for Kids' Cancer Bake Sale!

Interesting comment. I don't think a few homemade cookies are the cause of childhood obesity. Fast food, processed junk, soda, and candy as a steady diet combined with very little exercise and activity are to blame. I can appreciate your comment, though: I wasn't a big fan of my daughter's preschool selling cookie dough as a fundraiser, because the ingredient list on those buckets of dough was about a half mile long and none of the ingredients could actually be found in a kitchen. But even if you disagree with a bake sale on principle, you can still donate to the cause!

Have you tried roasting kale? Chop, toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and watch it carefully. You want it crisp but not brown. Some recipes call it kale chips; we call it crunchy kale. Yum!

On Looking for a local gift? Check out the Wisconsin Wagon Co.

The mini model is perfect for kids. I gave my children this wagon one Christmas. It looked adorable under the tree, and is great for pulling dolls and toys around the house. I love that it will last until I am someday a grandmother! A great gift.

On Do You Know a SuperDad?

Wow, I am amazed that what was intended to be a celebration of today's fathers was misinterpreted to such a degree that it was. I never said anything remotely close to what NoLeftist suggests, that yesterday's dads were "ignorant, lazy chauvinists." Remember, this is a blog about PARENTING. So when I said that more is expected from today's dads, I am talking about in regards to parenting. Nothing more. I totally agree that fathers from my dad and grandfather's generation worked their tails off in so many ways, and were also amazing fathers.

Please make your comments constructive. I have no issue with people disagreeing with me, but keep it courteous, please. No need to criticize me as a person for sharing my own thoughts in a blog that I volunteer my time to write. Thank you.
