On Janesville teachers to hold rally Monday night

I think this really stinks. No worker should have to work their whole life and be educated only to lose their seniority rights. You can make the argument that corporate employees are already paying in towards their retirement but we all know they earn 10 times what public sector employees earn in a year. I think its demoralizing and sad. It's so interesting how public workers are the first to pay for the sins of crappy government spending. Stop beating up on these people and start finding better ways to manage the state's finances Mr. Walker.

I just want to direct my thoughts to the family of Alex. I went to school with Alex. I want you to know how deeply SADDENED I am to hear of this awful news! There is no question that this is just another injustice to Alex and it proves that our punishment systems are extremely flawed. Alex was one of the nicest guys - he had a smile that could light up a room. He is truly missed by all that knew him. My heart goes out to Alex's family. I hope you know that I will never forget Alex and I wish you much peace in the years to come. He is in a much better, safer place.

On Harrison Elementary prepared me for the world of cubes

This is a great post. Mr. Bontly is actually my father and I too was subjected to 'pod' life at Harrison Elementary! Thanks for the great memories. I do think it prepares you for 'community living'. Cube life can be difficult for some people. I work near someone who doesn't seem to like it much but it is a part of corporate life and you must learn to deal with it. Perhaps the pod concept did prepare us a bit better for this...hard to say but I do think it was a more comfortable environment - four walls are just so confining. Makes me wonder whether or not he enjoyed teaching that way...hmmm I will have to ask!
