On Milton teachers concerned about proposed health care changes

Posted on March 13 at 11:01 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I have home schooled my child and she learned more in a month than she did in 5 months in the public school. We have over crowded schools and SOME teachers aren't passionate about teaching. Some have other part time jobs and aren't taking the time to prepare for classes so they take that time during school hours. I still have not had a teacher keep my child in at recess to complete or correct work. I have asked this of them so my child will learn not to hurry and do their best the first time. I guess asking the teachers to give a little of their off time teaching is asking too much. Or maybe.....the union won't allow them to give more of themselves.

Phil, so Dr.'s should go to the home of the patients and do a narcotic count before writing a script? It is always easy to blame dr's for things we should be responsible for. How about this common sense solution..... How about taking all unused medications back to the pharmacy for disposal or taking them to the drug drop off sites? That way we are taking responsibility for our own person and family.

Why is it that if you are a union member or a government employee it is a given right to have more than the public sector (who by the way pays your salary and benefits). It is as if the employees get more benefits than the employer. This really needs to stop or our country will be bankrupt very soon.

Thank you again Ken! I met you through a couple of charities you supported and now again you are reaching out to help. It sometimes takes a simple solution to a complex problem.

It is the U.S. pharmaceutical companies doing most of the research on drugs so we can continue to provide the best healthcare. Should we stop researching new drugs so we can have comparable prices? Do you not think that if the Canadians were shoveling money towards research that they would not raise their prices too?

On Milton man guilty on poison charge in Alaska

tj24, you are right. There is probably no way to tell precisely how the baby died. I was assuming the drug caused the death. If it indeed did, then I believe he is no more guilty than a doctor/nurse performing an abortion. And, yes there are abortions performed without the fathers consent or knowledge.

Hi Thekid3477,
I didn't fail to realize that he did it against her wishes or knowledge, and for that it is just another reason this is a horrible crime. She became a victim too. And yes, I am pro life. But, if you take away the fact that the mother did not consent or have knowledge, it IS the same thing that doctors and nurses do everyday. They murder babies who don't have a voice or any way to defend themselves. If you are prochoice then you should only be outraged that the mother wasn't informed. I am outraged by both.

I know this sounds crazy, but think about it. This is the same thing that abortion doctors and nurses are doing every day.

On Murder suspect's father questioned

I want to pose a question to all who are following this case, PLEASE READ AND GIVE ME YOUR RESPONSE.
Steve H. lives 2 blocks from where his granddaughter goes to school and has been vocal about taking matters into his own hands if she is taken away. He was found with 5 guns in his home April 22 (the day Erica was murdered), 1 that Kyle used and this Wednesday they found a gun and marajuana in his home. He is a felon and shouldn't have guns at all. He is also an alcoholic. So the Child welfare acted to ensure the safety of the child (finally), they had the school in lockdown for 1hr Wednesday morning. Okay, here is the question!!!!
Should that school keep the doors locked if Steve is not behind bars and his granddaughter has been taken away??????
My answer is ABSOLUTELY!

As a citizen of Milton who lives quite close to the Hicke's, I am concerned about the family posting bond. Does anyone have information on whether they would keep him on house arrest or any form of physical restriction if released. Also, will the public be notified before he is released? He committed this crime out of anger and desperation. How much more desperate and angry would he be if released and facing life in prison? He would have nothing to lose.
