On Great job interview but no offer? Here's why...

Posted on July 21 at 7:50 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

One of the things that I've learned to do is "close." Just like a salesman does, it shows that you have initiative. When you think about it, that's what you're doing in an interview - selling yourself. Its always good to ask if the hiring manager has any additional questions, and/or if they would like you to tell them more about something. At the end of the interview, stick your neck out a little bit, be frank, and ask how your qualifications measure up to the expectations of the organization.

On Reality. Check.

Thanks for volunteering, Steve. I too volunteered for the morning and had a great time. It was an eye-opening experience to see the students' reactions when they realized all of the money they had to spend just to survive. Then when they didn't balance, the $30 NSF fees really hit home.

It was a great day, and proved extremely beneficial to both students and volunteers. I think the students and volunteers learned a great deal from each other. This is an experience many students can benefit from.

On Sunday Celebrations Page: The Janesville brain drain barometer

As a high school student I plan on moving out of Janesville, and possibly even Wisconsin upon graduating from college. I hate to say it, but Wisconsin just doesn't "scream" opportunities for many young professionals. I will admit however that Janesville has been a great place to grow up in, and if there is work available, I would most definitely raise my children here. I would have to agree with wjbecky. Maybe its just a cycle that most young adults will go through, move away from Janesville, then realize what they're missing at home.

Steve, I totally agree. As a high school student, nothing is more annoying than these type of parents. I work my butt off to accomplish what I do, and when someone has mommy or daddy bail they out it's pretty frustrating.

On Janesville standoff with suicidal subject resolved

I appreciate JPD's response to this situation, however, I do not understand officers having guns pointed at an individual during a suicidal standoff. I understand the public safety issue, but if someone is suicidal; is pointing a gun at them going to make them change their mind?

On Credit union branches open in high schools

Staff members received a letter at the end of last school year that gave them information regarding scrubbing their account. Also, Blackhawk isn't just throwing us students in the btanch and letting us run free. We went through extensive training over the summer. Also, we have a branch manager with us when we are working at all times shall a crisis arise.

I am one of the student tellers at the Craig branch, and trust me when I say confidentiality is one of the things that was stressed to us extensively. We are all under oath of office, and I speak for all six of us ( 3 at Parker and 3 at Craig) when I say we understand the responsibility of keeping our members' information confidential; students, teachers, staff alike. I know for a fact all of the students that were hired are extremely responsible and would not want to give up this amazing opportunity we've been given by Blackhawk just to tell a friend/parent, etc. confidential account information.

Also, on a side note; employees of the School District of Janesville have the choice of "scrubbing" their account information. This means any teller transacting on the member's account cannot see balances, social security numbers, etc.

On High schools locked down for drug search

I think its great they're trying to get drugs out of school to create a better environment.
However, I'm willing the bet a majority of the kids busted will get just a slap on the wrist. I have seen on more than one occasion, kids getting busted but then being allowed back at school due to several factors including being labeled as "ld"

this is long over due
the Woodmans current offices are not the least bit professional and I can not imagine vendors having to come into these offices.
