On Janesville standoff with suicidal subject resolved

Posted on November 4 at 1:41 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I appreciate JPD's response to this situation, however, I do not understand officers having guns pointed at an individual during a suicidal standoff. I understand the public safety issue, but if someone is suicidal; is pointing a gun at them going to make them change their mind?

On Credit union branches open in high schools

Staff members received a letter at the end of last school year that gave them information regarding scrubbing their account. Also, Blackhawk isn't just throwing us students in the btanch and letting us run free. We went through extensive training over the summer. Also, we have a branch manager with us when we are working at all times shall a crisis arise.

I am one of the student tellers at the Craig branch, and trust me when I say confidentiality is one of the things that was stressed to us extensively. We are all under oath of office, and I speak for all six of us ( 3 at Parker and 3 at Craig) when I say we understand the responsibility of keeping our members' information confidential; students, teachers, staff alike. I know for a fact all of the students that were hired are extremely responsible and would not want to give up this amazing opportunity we've been given by Blackhawk just to tell a friend/parent, etc. confidential account information.

Also, on a side note; employees of the School District of Janesville have the choice of "scrubbing" their account information. This means any teller transacting on the member's account cannot see balances, social security numbers, etc.

On High schools locked down for drug search

I think its great they're trying to get drugs out of school to create a better environment.
However, I'm willing the bet a majority of the kids busted will get just a slap on the wrist. I have seen on more than one occasion, kids getting busted but then being allowed back at school due to several factors including being labeled as "ld"

this is long over due
the Woodmans current offices are not the least bit professional and I can not imagine vendors having to come into these offices.

On High schools locked down for drug search

As a student at Craig, I didn't see any dogs in the halls as I was escorted to the bathroom either. I don't understand how they searched for drugs if dogs weren't even brought into school. Maybe they selected certain students to search?

On Virtual schools debate hits home

This is just yet another way to be able to get the funding that comes with each child. Instead of punishing the kids who are causing trouble, we come up with alternatives, just so the district can get its precious money. This is nothing but a way for the district to collect money on kids who are not able to handle being in a regular classroom/school environment.

On Three Janesville students expelled

You really have to love those criticizing the district for expelling these students. You have obviously never walked around the halls of the middle and high school, or taken part in a class. Many times the things the students are expelled for are just a small portion of the things they do on a daily basis. I attend Craig and cannot get over how many chances they give many of the trouble makers. There are so many kids that are given way too many chances, just so the district can have more funding; because as we all know, each student is more money. I know of a specific student that has been involved in two or three fights this year alone, and yet is still on our campus!
Get these kids out of our school system!

On Math competition will be cut

Funny how academic programs are always the first to go. Amazing how there's still basketballs to bounce, and numerous other sport-related activities that have not seem any cuts. The only sports things we've seen changed is the athletic fee, which most high schools already have.

On Downtown skateboarding ordinance fails

I'm a little upset that this ordinance wasn't passed. I'm sure there is damage that is done unintentionally, and the skateboarders aren't even realizing it. Likewise, most of the skateboarders I have come across are very rude, and like to think they own the downtown.
