On School closure still big 'if'

Posted on July 1 at 11:40 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Something isn't right here....
This is part of the post from Choosefairly on the last article....

"But the one school that the committee wanted to close only rose from the bottom of the list to 5th, even after the results were reconfigured. Was there no way to make this process favor the committee’s preconceived choice of the correct school to close? Surely, everyone knew that people of importance only move into Janesville to attend school on one side of the city. Think of the impact this would have on these neighborhoods? Too absurd to even consider.
Aha! A brilliant solution appeared: What if the top four choices could simply be removed from consideration? Well now, that would work just fine, and look how the school from the bottom of the list, the one least appropriate for closure, suddenly appears as choice number one. All were relieved, and the meeting could finally be adjourned knowing the committee (coincidentally composed of the same members as the BLC) had finally arrived at the right choice for Janesville."

The 5th School on the list was Roosevelt....so THEY the COMMITTEE wanted Roosevelt, and since the numbers didn't match they did a different calculation. SCAM! Numbers don't lie......

I doubt Monroe will be picked; someone who is on the committee has children that go there... They should not be on this committee to help decide.

Why not use the word "Closing" a school instead - because isn't that what you are going to do?

Neonnate1002- I like your idea; too bad others feel $18/mo is not worth help saving our schools.I don't want to imagine what our schools are going to be like with all these cuts! Very Sad! Thank you to all the current and past teachers in Janesville for your services!

On Janesville School Board finance committee to reopen discussion on school closure, athletics fees

Closing a school is not the only option out there; I am still confused why the four schools are the only ones still in the running. I know two schools (Wilson and Roosevelt) have been renovated not to long ago, not sure on the other two mentioned. Where are the Kids from Wilson and Roosevelt going to go?! Adams is high in enrollment and yes some kids will need to be bused! Paying over $600 for a child to play Golf IS crazy!!! When my child wants to play a sport, we have to pay the YMCA or any other organization fees, so I am sure something can be looked at for that. Why hasn't the School Board look into raising tution fees for school. Paying only $20/yr to enroll your child is crazy, I would be more than happy to pay more! I am sure people will disagree with me on that saying they can't afford that etc.It bothers me when I go to my child's school to register for the school year and I see people there applying for reduced lunches and they have their nails all pretty and talking on their expensive cell phones!

On Research begins for 2012 school closing in Janesville

I hope the School Board doesn't keep the 4 schools hostage; ALL the Elementary Schools in Janesville need to be considered. Wilson - recently renovated and there would be issues there if they close; Roosevelt- recently renovated and there would be lots of kids being moved to other schools which would make them overcrowed. Very interesting that they only presented these two schools - but that just shows that is where the school board is heading; and to have a School Board member ask to have one taken off the list; sure makes it seem we may now know what school they are looking at; and that is wrong! At this meeting Monroe and Harrison was mentioned to have low numbers for attendence, so why aren't they being considered? I would like to be at the next School Board Meeting; does anyone know when it is?
