On No one answered RichE95's union question

Factsplease, I agree with you that people should be able to drive whatever they want. My point was do we really know that teachers prefer cheap and reliable vehicles? Maybe they do, maybe they don't. Assuming that they actually do prefer these vehicles because they may perform more research on their purchases because they are teachers and have college degrees conveys a certain amount of smugness.

So teachers drive Hondas and Toyotas because they are cheaper, more efficient, and more reliable. They must be so much smarter that the rest of the population in order to make these wise economic decisions.
Actually, I would wonder if the percentage of foreign/domestic cars in a school parking lot is any different than at a WalMart. People make the observations they want to make.
If there really are more Honda and Toyotas in teacher lots, I would account it to peer pressure and the fact that in certain circles driving one is a kind of status symbol, especially if you have a hybrid.

Watch out parents. Don't dress or groom your boys too fancily. People could make assumptions.

On Why is teacher bashing a spectator sport here?

Posted on January 29 at 7:55 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

drana, I don't think any one is suggesting that teachers take a 75% pay cut for only working 9 months a year. I think many people see a $32,000 9 month teaching job as equivalent to a $40,000 year round job. Teachers go into the job knowing the what the schedule and pay will be. As you stated, teachers tend to be good at math, and should be able to properly budget without a summer job.
That being said, I think some of the "bashing" is jealousy. They want the pay and benefits of being a teacher. Perhaps they wish went into teaching, even if they don't understand what the job fully entails or want to do the work it takes to become a teacher. I am sure many teachers think there is nothing to be jealous about. JMO

Kids are fatter now-a-days so they don't need the heavier coat:) Actually, they are better off without the heavier coat so they can burn a little of it off.

On High capacity: What’s not to like?

I don't think it would necessarily be a bad idea for high-capacity magazines to require special permits, but articles like this do nothing to change any minds. Also, how do does Horowitz define high capacity? Many people would define it differently by depending on the caliber.

On Two-way plan in downtown Janesville is rerouted

They should convert it just so people will stop talking about it and wasting council time on it. I don't hear anyone wanting Jackson and Franklin Streets converted back to one-way. Plus, the conversion won't get any cheaper in the future. All the bypasses around the city have reduced the need for one-way streets.

Taking a vote 2 weeks before saying you will is pretty low on the councils part.

I wonder if everybody got upset at Theodore Roosevelt back in 1901 after McKinley was assassinated? He gave the "speak softly and carry a big stick" 12 days before the assassination. (TR was McKinleys VP at the time).
