WakeUp -
Sorry, I read your entry of 11:33am and tried to make sense of it, but I can't. Are you saying I am using multiple user names? Are you saying I am a liar? Are you saying I should stop the made up witch hunts, whatever that means? What facts are in comments left on other pages?
I have one username - I don't know who the other users are except the few who have identified themselves, like bigmama101.
Or am I just making an incorrect assumption that your comment was addressed to me because it came two minutes after my last comment?

The counter at the village hall now has a sign that says employees only, so they are restricting access to the other side of the counter.
And I guess you people have never dealt with the public in a situation like the village hall. If you refuse to talk to someone, you are accused of being rude, if you talk too much you are wasting time. And who decides what is the right amount of time to spend with someone - not the village employee, but the person on the other side of the counter who will complain loudly if they are not satisfied.
And biggreendad - how do we tell which ones are the busy bodies, which ones are out to get something, and which ones are actually concerned citizens? Have you been to board meeting lately? What are YOU up to?

oplease - I'm sure you realize what a derogatory term you used to address me - that's why I hit the suggest removal button.

Did anyone see any illegal acts at the Village Hall? I've been "on the opposite side of the counter" myself, to look at maps and the statutes.

oplease - I find it interesting that you think a citizen of Darien has no power - isn't that what this last election was supposed to be about?? I'm sure glad you're not on the board.

Wisped - If you continue to be antagonistic, you will only get antagonism. And you hadn't been appointed yet when you spoke.
I think one943 hit it - we need a visible standard for public participation that is consistent.
And Marc did understand that the terms for the planning committee members were confused - I think you were so anxious to prove him wrong that you weren't listening to him. Some of the current members were appointed midterm, which means their term runs out when the person they replaced would have had their term run out. I believe Allen Kenyon was appointed, so he hadn't served two years on the board, yet he had to run for election anyway. Again, too much time was spent disussing the problem without actually working on the solution. When the board finally got around to appointing members, they never did discuss filling the position left open by the village engineer. Does it need to be filled? Are we violating statutes by not filling the position?
And given the extraordinary legal circumstances we've encountered lately, how much would we have paid the firm Evelyn selected? I think the figures would still be very high - lawyers charge by the hour.

Wisped - thank you for sharing, I will acknowledge that you area political appointee with some credentials.
Now maybe you could work on your public demeanor concerning our village administrator, since at the board meeting you only wanted to harp on past inconsitencies (which all occurred before Marc was hired) and try to make it look like Marc was somwhow at fault. Marc is a major part of village management. Maybe you should try to work with him instead of constantly criticizing him. It really didn't sound like you were looking for a solution, just a way to pin the problem on someone.

Okay, let's talk about specific problems I have with Evelyn that she can easily correct if she cares to...
First, she said she wanted to save money for the village, but only talked about the qualifications of her choice for legal representation. Maybe she should talk about hourly rates of the different firms so we know a true comparison was made. Maybe she shouldn't have tried to make a unilateral appointment without the rest of the board having a chance to consult or consider her reasoning. As was suggested at the meeting, a bidding process would allow a public discussion of the choices available. She would still make the call, but the process would be transparent so us little citizens would know she wasn't just working her personal agenda.
And why did Evelyn "pull a Metzner" by allowing Helen Burton to speak and engage in a discussion about committee appointments? The rules still say that the public is allowed to address the board only during the designated public participation time, and only then if they have requested that they be put on the agenda. There are many times I would like to throw out an idea or ask a question during board discussions, but I am not allowed to. If Evelyn wants to change the system, she needs to do it formally, with a majority of the board, and then control future meetings so the new rules are enforced equally for everyone.

And kudos to Marc Dennison, who was obviously feeling terribly ill, yet came in to do his job at the board meeting because it was one thing that wouldn't wait until he had a chance to recover.
By the way Wisped, I am willing to give Evelyn twice the time she gave our new village administrator to prove she is capable - oops, her two minutes are up!!!
