I am shocked. What a sweetheart of a lady. Nothing but class written all over her. I have only had the pleasure of knowing her for 3 years, but immediately knew she was a super great lady. I became friends with her and found she stopped at nothing to help you. I will so surely miss her. We have lost a super communtiy leader.
On How should students’ cell phone use be limited?
Posted on March 29 at 9:37 a.m. ( Suggest removal )
Ya know, it might be new technology and all, but I survived high school just fine without a phone. I have two part time jobs and my cell phone is banned from both. I manage okay. If it is an emergency, then it is different, but what constitutes an emergency? My daughter went to high school in Monroe and they banned them entirely from the school. If you got caught with one on the premises, it was confiscated and given back at the END of the week. She survived and actually learned something. I also favor banning them from use when driving too. Can't tell you how many times I have almost been hit by young adults not paying attention to what they are doing because they have that cell phone up to their ear with one hand and a cigarette in the other. BAN THEM.

It just amazes me to see that we deal with the high schools and college teams, but yet the teams with all the money can keep their names. I am talking about the Cleveland Indians, The Atlanta Braves, The Chicago Blackhawks, and the Washington Redskins. It seems that if you have millions to spend, then we forgive those organizations which abuse this as well. I believe if one has to change, then ALL teams, including professional teams, must follow suit.
On Tobacco Prevention, Control Program puffing out smoking locally, statewide

aparentwhocares: I hope your daughter continues to consider the ill effects of smoking. Both my daughters got after me all the time when I smoked. Now they BOTH smoke. They are 22 and 29. I hate it that they do. I quit cold turkey 15 years ago. I run and I bike. I am almost in the best shape of my life. Only in high school was I in better shape. Believe it or not, sometimes I have an urge, but I just remember how it used to be. It can be done. I wish all who smoke the best and hopefully you can quit someday.

Janesvillian: Where did you come up with the 10 year replacement date? I have had the same plates going on my 12th year. They are not personalized either. Even traded in cars and kept the same plate. I am just curious. The state has made a lot off of me considering I pay the $75 and all they send me is that little sticker. The only people getting new plates would be those buying new vehicles. How many of those are being sold right now? And one more thing? Why is it that everyone wants to tie everything to President Obama? He has only been in office one month. Give the guy a chance. We gave the last President 8 years of chances.

Tell me where local gas stations are run by Mom and Pops anymore anyway. I think Davis Citgo is still run by a Mom and Pop but they are full service and prices are much higher than other stations in the city. They are surviving. Even if a local person runs the station, the gas is still operated by Citgo, Mobil, Shell, etc. The price is no longer determined by oil prices. If it was, we would be paying less than a $1.00 a gallon. Speculators determine the price of gas. When we were paying 85 cents a gallon for gas, I was making a lot less money. It all weighs out. Inflation has not kepted up with gas prices. If it had, we would be paying over $7.00 a gallon when compared to a can of Pepsi, a pizza, a loaf of bread, etc, etc. AT least now we have a chance to see lower prices. The competition could be interesting.

Sparks: Just like that huge $600 stimulus check that Bushman gave us. That sure put me into a higher tax bracket and certainly paid my bills. Get real. The Republicans have had the last 8 years to get things straight and they did nothing except to put us further and further in debt.
On Is your TV ready for conversion from analog to digital?

momof5: Yes, the government did send out thousands upon thousands of these vouchers but they only cost the government if you use them. I did send for one because I have a little 5 inch tv that I use in the kitchen that picks up all kind of stations with a built in antenna only to find out the converter box will not work with this type of tv. Bummer. It will not be used and there will not cost the government any money. In fact I am trying to give it away so it can be used by someone who really needs one. I will miss my little tv. Has anyone had trouble picking up NBC with the converter box?? A friend of my has. Thanks

What about those darn gas prices raising 24 cents a gallon in ONE day?? The price of oil only went up $4.00 a barrel, not $40.00 a barrel. The National average is only $1.62 a gallon and yet Janesville continues to lead the nation in the highest prices around. I guess when the demand went down, raise the price to make up the difference. The old supply and demand. Even little ole Brodhead was only $1.71 a gallon today. Why the spike?????? No rhyme or reason for this much of a spike....

I was told by city water office that this water main broke at 11 p.m. last night. I find it interesting to wake up this morning and have no water and yet, no news on WJVL or WCLO. Had to wait until it was fixed and then announcement came after noon??? Sponge bath this morning. It is now blocked off to repair street surface. The city crew worked all night to get this done.
