On Walworth County Marine killed in California crash

As the mom of a U.S. Marine currently stationed in California, my thoughts and prayers are certianly with the family. Having made it to Iraq and back, we think these young men are out of harm's way and tragedies like this prove to us that this is not always the case. Love and prayers go out to you and family CherryAustin.

I do understand the intent of the city with reagards to snowy sidewalks, but I would like to know a little more about the options available to people. My husband is the shoveler at our house, and he frequently gets called into work at odd hours. There have been times that he cannot get the shoveling done right away. I am unable to do the shoveling myself. Now what??? I think that more information is need about the subject, ie. how long is 'too long' for a sidewalk to go unshoveled? how much is 'too much' snow on a sidewalk?

I think these programs are great. I do admit to limited knowledge of how they are handled but I believe there is a screening program in place for these programs. It was the weekender program that helped with last year's disasterous flooding--filling sandbags where ever there was a need. They were monitored by a deputy, transported in a van, fed by the Red Cross (just like everybody else) and worked hard. Using these programs to benefit the communities is a good idea. And shoveling snow for the elderly would be a great way to give back to the community. I think we should encourage the use of these programs, getting offenders involved with other people in a positive manner. The recidivism rate being what it is, what do we have to lose??

carlitosway--whether or not you had insurance wasn't the issue-I DO have insurance and have had the same scenario occur. If the treatment is the same, why waste the money on a chest x-ray? I understand that logic. Sinus infections also cause coughs--and it is not unusual this time of year!

I'm with wiscchick here. While I can't say I understand all the financial whiz-kids about how all this is going to affect local healthcare costs, I agree that that everyone has their opinions. I worked in a similarly-sized community where there were 2 hospitals directly competing with each other. Horror stories abounded regarding care at BOTH facilities-unfortunately, that is the nature of this beast. Those living in Madison hear the same kind of thing about St. Mary's vs. UW. I personally have had care at both Riverview and Mercy, and have no complaints.
On Church visioning programs put focus on faith

Wow, I think it would be great to have discussion on this topic rather that negativity. I think that if one is of a faithful nature, why not 'dig deeper' into it. I also think that reaching out to the congregation for such detailed information is a fabulous idea and give Roxbury kudos for taking such an interest in the future of their church, its members, and even potential members.
On Thomas 'lived and breathed everything Janesville'

Jeff Thomas didn't just talk, he listened. He listened to his patients, and he listened to friends, neighbors, and citizens. And he took that information where it needed to go, whether fighting with insurance companies as a patient advocate, or taking constituent concerns into the government arena. He was a good man at heart.

I have attended a couple of programs at JPAC and had a wonderful time-the place is beautiful and the sound system is great. Although I can't afford to go as often as I might like, it is a really nice venue for a treat once in awhile.

I will start by stating that I am a believer. I do recall being taught that we have a freedom OF religion and not FROM religion, as somebody already mentioned. As far as I can tell, there is no harm, no foul here. The school did not organize the gathering or finance it. I would like to believe that they chose to send out the notice as a way to honor a student of the campus, not to incur the wrath of the Freedom From Religion groups.
