Republiberal, do you honestly think, in today's economy, the farmers can sell their land, their family land for generations in most cases, for enough money to pay the mortgage on their land, much less the loans that they owe on all their equipment? Do you know how small a portion of the $2+ a gallon that we pay for milk actually makes it to the farmer? I don't know the exact number, but I can bet you it is less than 25% of that. And when you factor in the long hours they work, day in and day out all year, they make WAY less than minimum wage. Most of them continue to do it because that is what they know and love.
And you callously say "sell their (I corrected your misspelling) land". How heartless, and how thoughless. What do you think would happen to food prices if the small farmers all sold their land? All that would be left would be major corporations, who would run the price of food through the roof. Maybe you might want to rethink your glib remark.

Has the city looked into dredging the river in those areas, to make it deeper to lessen flooding? Is this a viable possiblity?

Is it just me, or is this yet another "reporter turned in his notes" rather than a finished news article?? Was the press deadline so impending that a decent article couldn't be written, and we had to resort to "cliff notes"?
But then again, as this is the electronic age, the age of "instant gratification", perhaps I am asking for too much...

I must say, this is one of the worst "news articles" I have ever read. It appears to be nothing more than a collection of disjointed sentences. I am severely disappointed. Content, maybe...delivery, NO!

I admit, I didn't take the time to read all of the other posts, but how about something as basic as color coding the buses?? "Suzie, get on the bus with the GREEN label in the window"...what do you think? Or do buses still have numbers on them? Can children be given a boarding pass with the number of the bus they are to ride? Just my two cents...

How about a ramp that goes over the traffic instead? They have them in Madison, can't we look into something like that here? Or is it too late? A gradual ramp, building up the incline off to the side, then crossing at a safe height to allow vehicles to go underneath, and again tapering down to street level?
