On Bailout approved: Automakers to get $17.4B

Posted on December 19 at 7:26 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I have a question for all you union haters: Why is it that Toyota trucks cost the same, if not more, than the Detroit 3 trucks (at least they were the last time I was shopping for one)? As a matter of fact, why do the vehicles that are made in another country, Mexico for instance, cost as much as those made here in this city? Don't blame the union for all of this...Those of you who have paid holidays, personal, and/or sick time, why do you think you have it? Because your employer is so pure of heart and generous? NO! It's because your employer doesn't want to deal with a union. The same principle applies for unemployment compensation, workplace safety, fair hiring standards, 401k, retirement, pensions, worker's compensation, cost of living increases...I could go on all night. Unions didn't fight for these things for only their members, but for ALL workers. If unions die now (and the obituaries are already written), all other employers are going to follow suit & take away these benefits that we all enjoy. Merry Christmas!

sttld... (or whatever you call yourself)Molly did NOT come in right off the street. She has an Associates Degree--she's even in the Who's Who of American colleges and Universities. She has a background in the health profession--she worked as an x-ray tech for as long as she worked at G.M. She continued her continuing education to keep her certification in case this happened. She's wanted to get back into the Health Care field for as long as I've known her. Her pay and health benefits at G.M. were more than what she received as an x-ray tech. You people amaze me...you hate/bash us when we're working, you do the same when we get laid off, and do it even more when we try to pull ourselves up by the bootstrings so we don't have to settle for a minimum wage job. You just want us to fail...admit it!

Why weren't Wall Street employees asked to take concessions? Wall Street got a bailout--no questions asked. Detroit Three are asking for a loan, and have to account for every dime.

As General Motors slashes jobs, closes plants and battles to avoid bankruptcy, the company’s CEO has set up a retirement plan that will pay him at least $4.6 million a year – nearly twice his current salary.

“In the fiscal year that ended in March 2007, Toyota’s top 32 executives — a group that included CEO Katsuaki Watanabe — together pulled in $7.8 million in bonuses on top of salaries of $12.1 million. For the comparable period, one single GM exec, CEO Rick Wagoner, raked in $10.2 million.” [www.toomuchonline.org/tmweekly.html]
In 2008 Wagoner got a $5.3 million dollar raise.

gabby06, the speed limit is 45 mph through the intersection. Maybe if people paid more attention & obeyed the laws themselves, instead of applying it only to others, there would be fewer accidents.

On Groups line up for another bailout

cozat5, I'm a UAW member, laid off from the plant. Personally, I don't want the Detroit 3 to get a bailout, unless there are alot of resignations from top executives. I wrote my congress & senate representatives & told them so, too. Either way, it makes no difference to me. Our house is paid for, & so are our vehicles. If nothing else, I'll go on welfare, food stamps, & BadgerCare. Taxpayers pay either way (sarcasim). Feel better now?

If I work at the plant, and I decide to relocate, I will have a house to sell. If it doesn't, then I'm either stuck with making payments on it when I'm not even there anymore, or rent it out and face a whole other area of risk. I didn't think that psychonurse was asking for a pity-party--mearly stating a fact.
