On Alvarez, Bielema: Keep it clean

To say this is only a problem at Badger games is assinine. It is juat that their games are on a more national level and more people from around the state that are not alumni attend. The same things were chanted at other Wisconsin college football games.....I went to La Crosse...and I can bet it is the same a Whitewater, Heck, I remember in high school how guys would chant either that or reply to the alligator cheer about who to eat up! It is just a part of the college atmosphere...but at least they are usually not the mucholder adults that do it out in public at stores and bars, etc. I have witnssed that and THEY loook stupid. College students....it is just a part of the fun and I am sure all these people saying "ooh, I dont like those words" used to say them in college too, if not currently. You see and hear more filth in the movies!!

On Do you support Walker-Ever education reform?

I love reading how non-teachers like to bash a profession they know nothing about. It is this kind of attitude that hurts the profession.....not the teachers and the unions....where do you think the children learn the disrespect and lack of motivation for doing their job at school? It certainly is not taught at school and not because the high school kids don't "connect" to the older teachers. That was a pretty lame excuse...how about teaching kids how to respect all adults and
teachers? It all starts at home! It is about time this newspaper put a stop to the constant teacher bashing. It shows the lack of intelligence in this community as other community papers show support to teachers and not ignorance.

On Some Wis school districts won't give teacher names

To answer the question about using a sick day to protest and getting paid...get your facts straight.....they were docked pay, at least the ones I know did! I am so glad people have such little respect for this profession. Seems that back in the day the school was the center of the community and what the teacher said went and if the kid misbehaved, they caught heck at home. Such disrespect for teachers or any adult in this day and age is sick. People sometimes forget that the behavior they show rubs off on their kids....

On Janesville teachers to hold rally Monday night

I am so glad so many people know everything about what a teacher does. Don't even want to waste my breath. The one who posted that the teachers should then have control about who has kids.....thank you! We all want money so we can have our flat screen TVs. Yep, that's why I went into teaching. I never complained when I was frozen in salary for 5 years. Now I'm comfortable and now I feel financially independent after 12 years....and now I might have to go backwards. Some people should walk into a school sometime....really witness what some go through in a day. Ever have a child scream in your face or have a chair thrown around...and the lack of respect some kids have....that's right, its our fault then. And the non-teaching stuff....i don't even have time to use the bathroom anymore because I have too much to get done.

On School Districts - Please increase my taxes

I have to agree....my parents and grandparents have always held the philosophy that someone paid for the schools when they were there, and then it was their turn. Remember, people didn't have money rolling around back then either...if not much less...plus my grandparents were farmers! I do recall tough times growing up in the 80s but never heard a complaint from my parents. Sometimes you have to work hard with education, motivation etc. to achieve things.
What will be produced out of the Janesville schools once there are limited opportunities?
Kind of sad. Having kids or nit should also not
be a factor....everybody went to school.
Off the subject, stop ripping this guy to shreds
because he has what he has and can do what he can do....I am sure he worked for it and was
brought up to save. Not all of us with "things"
today had it given to us growing up. Think about
what you have and not what you dont. In my
opinion having a computer and Internet service is
also a luxury but apparently it is afforded? Unless it's done at the library? I don't own a fancy smartphone either but I see who keeps hanging out at the cell phone stores...just sayin'

On I'm a lucky mom

It's great to be able to spend a lot of time with your grandchildren, but I am kind of disappointed about how children who don't get the constant care from their grandparents don't have a relationship with them. I had grandparents that lived in my same town and the others lived 2 1/2 hours away. My mom did not have us at my Grandma's house constantly, but that did not deter us from getting to know them. Same goes with my other grandparents. It's not about how
much time and involved they are with helping out. It's about the effort made just to get to know them. My parent's one grandchild lives in Georgia. Obviously they are not there for everything and constant babysitting, but my niece knows and loves her grandparents. It's great to have the grandparents there to help out... but they should not be a built in babysitter and taken advantage of. I know some that constantly watch their grandkids so the parents can "go out." which should be the priority, their job as parents or constantly entertaining themselves. There is a line between spending time with your grandparents and getting sent there for babysitting.

On No TV for Baby

My niece watched Baby Einstein videos and her language skills were very well developed long before she was 2. We interacted with her while watching the dvds and read lots of books to her. She didn't watch TV constantly all day long...it was mostly when there was busy time fixing dinner, etc. She was reading before she was in kindergarten...and as a 1st grader is excelling. Not saying TV is the best for everything, but it does have some good shows for kids...just use it appropriate and in small doses!!

On Evansville parents upset over poms uniform changes

As a former pom pom girl myself, I don't know if I support the issue. This is funny to me- I was one in the early 90s and we were told our skirts were supposedly "too short" but yet we also wore a matching sweater with a turtleneck or a t-shirt. There was a girl who were ridiculed by the boys because her chest apparently bounced about a lot during performances. Yes, the tanks look nice, but it probably is a bit much for young girls...are they trying to look like professional dancers in the NBA or NFL league? I'm surprised the fathers support their girls wearing stuff like that at that age too. As for the volleyball shorts, what? That's the ridiculous part of this story.

On Terror suspects plan for Illinois worries Ryan

Well, my grandparents live near Thomson. They thought it was ridiculous when the very large jail was built in the first place because it sat empty and a lot of money was spent on it. Can't wait to hear their opinion- they weren't fans of Obama from the time he ran for senator.

On 148 Wis. schools fail federal standards

Posted on June 9 at 8:47 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

shermd, I am with you (teacher too!) In the beginning of the year I made and sent home specific homework for a child that struggled with reading. None of it was returned. I still don't think the parent does anything with him. So we can bust our tails as much as we can to meet these standards (which, for 2014 is ridiculous). But like Obama said (one of the only things I agree with him on), parents need to be responsible for teaching their children too- turn off the TV and the video games and I add on teach your kids values and morals as we spend way too much time working on that when we could be teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic.
My school is not on the list either.
