On Father accused of killing son still critical

The only thing that gives me peace of mind with this whole situation is that Kyle is now in heaven and does not have to live with his numerous disabilities any longer. Kyle pretty much grew up at the school I work at. It was hard to swallow the information today. People that knew the family were surprised because of how much the father loved Kyle- something definitely snapped and hopefully he did leave something behind to give sense of his reasons.
On Don't let lack of green make a blue Christmas

I think this situation could teach kids (and adults) not to be so greedy with Christmas. Ever read about how families in the 1940s-1960s (or whatever past decade) spent Christmas? It certainly wasn't focused on all the hype and what you could get, it was about family and then the kids were usually thankful for one special item. Yes, we all like the high ticket items, but we do tend to lose sight on the real purpose of Christmas. I always have to shake my head when I hear what my 1st grade students receive for Christmas each year....just how many video game consoles does one family need? And kids with their own TV, DVD, whatsoever for their bedroom? No wonder there is a breakdown in family.
On Obama's associations keep character suspect

I'm so glad to read people's comments that understand the problem with the "real Obama." I too can not believe people just brush off this whole Bill Ayers thing, not to mention the other characters he has associations with. It is scary to think this person could be our president. Unfortunately the biased media (I'm sorry, it is) just poo-poos it and worries more about Sarah Palin's wardrobe. Guess what, they also forgot to mention that Obama and his wife recently spent thousands of dollars at the Waldorf Astoria in New York on caviar and wine from India. Get the facts people, read Obama's book, check something out that isn't from the biased media. If you want socialist ideas, move to those countries that already have that, I'm sure they are all "happy people." Why must people who work hard to better themselves with an education and are prosperous because of it supposed to be penalized? They made the choice to be prosperous by working for it, not looking for a free ride and a handout from the government. The people I know that are "prosperous" worked hard for their degrees and their job positions. Everybody has that opportunity, it's all about what you make of your own lives. I'm not saying other jobs don't work hard, it's the ones that pay well because of your education.I hope people enjoy their expensive free ride if this character comes into office. Don't vote for someone because it's the cool thing to do and Hollywood says so.

Not saying we should be putting nativity scenes on city property since of course there is a separation of church and state...however, maybe this country needs to think about the reason for Christmas (heck, read the first 6 letters in the word!) Honestly, with the way the world is going right now....maybe God is trying to tell us something. Just some food for thought.
And speaking of people having issues with other religions and customs- these religious fanatics and whomever else are trying to ruin the idea of Halloween for elementary students. They can't just have fun anymore and play with the idea of ghosts, goblins, and witches. Please, I don't think we are going to be doing any spells and turning them to a pagan religion. And also think- "back in the day," did the minority religious (or whatever) groups cause an uproar and force people to change things to accommodate their beliefs or did they just go with the flow or do something different for that day?
On Father shares beer with sons, ages 2 and 4

I can't believe someone actually would do that kind of thing in public with a 2 and 4 year old!! But....I've sure met quite a few odd people in my profession (as a teacher) in which I'm wondering how their brains even worked to reproduce, except that they survive on basic animal mentality- eat, sleep, and reproduce.
I have to admit, when I was little, my sisters and I would have random sips from our dad out of his beer when their friends were over, but it was small and limited...but I think I was older than 4. I can't even imagine doing the same thing to my 4 year old niece. But here's the kicker- we had beer (on tap!!!) and liquor in our basement growing up. My sisters and I did not abuse it or drink underage (well, college was a different story). But we never abused it then either. We saw it used appropriately in our house and I actually thought beer was gross for the longest time!
On Bus drops kindergartner miles from home

This was an unfortunate accident, but I'm sure Gracie will bounce back from it. It truly does happen here and there because well, accidents do happen to even the most protective of people. I too don't understand why the bus driver let the girl off in the first place. My principal may be very specific when it comes to the buses, especially on the first day, but we rarely have an issue (it's not Janesville Schools). The kindergarteners have bus tags on their backpacks, we have a bus list for our class for where they go each day (some kids go to different places each day!) and on the first day, EVERY child has a colored piece of paper representing their bus (the buses have a color and not a number) and the kindergarteners get on first before the other grades. There is always at least one kid that gets mixed up, but it's always checked and I know that the drivers do NOT let them off where they are not listed and need a slip if they go somewhere different. Yes, the teachers should have been a bit more aware, but go visit a school during pick-up time the first week of school, it's hectic and even the parents have to be trained what to do- you can't just go wherever and whenever these days.

shutupandfish and justmyopinion.....am I suppose to feel sorry for everybody else because I went to college to do well for myself? My parents, who do not have 4 year degrees encouraged my sisters and I to go to school and do something with our lives. My sister didn't sit on her butt to get to where she is today and still has to work hard to maintain it...so that's a crime because instead she is supposed to feel sorry for others for not being as well off as her? Everybody has opportunities, it's just a matter of if you sat there and whined about it or if you tried to figure out how to better yourself. My father was laid off twice in the 80s and he didn't sit and whine that it was Reagan's fault, and we certainly didn't get any assistance from the government growing up, and they still sent all 3 of us to college- without federal assistance. We never had nice cars and never had cable and we always got stuff on sale or had hand-me-downs. And when we got new things, we had to be thankful for it and do our chores without any lip. I myself live in an apartment because I can't afford a decent house on my own because the government doesn't hand things out to me...but my money sure helps others to have things I would like myself.
I'm a conservative and proud of it.

Green grass looks nice....however, it's a luxury here compared to other places in the country that have been in a drought for years. Ever go in the Southeast, maybe the Atlanta, GA area???? Everybody's grass is crap because they have strict limits on how much water and when to water. My brother-in-law still mows (he's a WI boy at heart and doesn't hire landscapers like many others in the area) because they still have to keep it trimmed and take care of the weeds for their subdivision's rules. Everybody's grass is brown, but they still take care of it. Seriously...you can get fined if your water usage is high and you are caught watering past a certain time. So, your green grass is a luxury. Even my dad, the man who would mow for life, isn't that obsessed with making it green.

I love how the one-sided (liberal) media has pretty much brainwashed the country on Obama. I'm not saying McCain is the most wonderful there is, but really....I have learned about more of Obama's connections from his past that are quite scary. And do we really want someone to head our country when they haven't even headed any committee as a senator? Seriously, there is info out there about him that obviously is not widely publicized about Obama...but the media makes a big stink about how many houses McCain owns? Who cares. Obama is an elitist snob himself...my sister did well for herself with all her education, makes very good money, works long hours....but apparently isn't qualified as someone who "works" in the working class according to Obama.

On UPDATE: Armed robbery in residential Janesville neighborhood
Posted on November 28 at 4:56 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
lussonee: Um, not all spots on Green Forest Run are crime ridden....but I sure can bet which complex has the most police calls. And I am pretty sure its not the one I live in or the one with senior citizens and I feel pretty safe where I am because they are well-cared for. I'm sure there are more areas in this town with more issues than here.
As for crime related to the economy...puh-lease. I've been to large cities (Atlanta, Milwaukee, Chicago, etc) and they've always had crime as when there are a lot of people, these things usually do happen. Look at what's been going on with Madison lately. I do think a lot of people in this area need to realize that Janesville is not the perfect town they think it is. Heck, even small towns have their fair share of crimes lately- I know, I grew up in one! I don't think it's the economy- it's been happening for YEARS!!! I think it's the low mentality of society!!! Ever look at the pictures of people who are convicted???
I need to stop before I say something not so nice.
