What is the Gazette's policy on editorial staff voting? I recall Scott Angus writing in a column a few months back that employees were prohibited from signing the recall petitions.

Yeah, let's trade a hall-of-fame caliber player -- only the fourth in 40+ years that this organization has drafted/developed -- who is signed to a relatively team-friendly contract through 2020. Anyone who believes that for a second is an idiot. Hi Steve!

Sadly, I too have never caught an in-game foul ball or home run. The closest I came to a home run was in 1989 at County Stadium. Robin Yount poked an opposite-field shot just inside the right-field foul pole, in our section about 10 (empty) rows just to our right. By the time I figured out what had happened, stood up and taken two steps toward the ball, three people ran down and wrestled over it.

I have, however, obtained a game-caught foul ball, and it was a similarly impressive story as TT tells above. A buddy and I went to a Brewers/Expos game on April 30, 2003. The published attendance was 10,945 but I would be surprised if there were 5,000 people inside Miller Park that night.

We headed in for batting practice and while standing on the concourse behind center field, a screaming line-drive headed toward us. The ball bounced off some bleachers and right to my buddy. It was his first "home run" ball and we had had a few adult beverages, so we were pretty about the snag. I had mentioned earlier to my friend that I never had caught a ball and he boastfully said, "If I catch another one tonight, I'll give it to you."

Lo and behold, around the seventh inning we had moved down from the upper deck to the expensive seats along the first-base line. Shortly thereafter, a foul ball headed toward our section. The ball sailed just over our heads and into the aisle. It bounced off a step 9or something) and up into the air. My buddy, holding a beer in one hand, reached up and plucked the ball out of the air. Immediately I looked at him and screamed, "You owe me a ball!" To my surprise, he tossed it my way. We later learned that the entire exchange was shown on the TV broadcast.

Two interesting side notes to that story. One, I still have never come close to catching a gamed-hit ball. And two, my buddy got pretty drunk later that night and lost his ball. I still have mine!

I'm not saying that underage drinking isn't or shouldn't be a concern, but isn't the first sentence of this story a bit over the top?
