On Rotary Gardens’ executive director resigns

janesvillean,
from what i understand, and from a very reliable source, the exec directors they've hired have been very good, highly qualified candidates. the problem appears to be a meddling, aging, set in their ways board of directors.
when you get good younger talent with strong initiatives, but they are hindered by a board that continually blocks forward thinking initiatives (with a that's "not how we've always done it in the past"), you get frustrated and leave.
that said, i agree with you.
the gardens would be better if most of the board resigned -- and then they started fresh.
not going to happen though.

@frank,
half of the movies listed i believe played locally. otherwise, you have to find an art house theatre -- generally in madison, milwaukee or chicago.
us rubes apparently don't understand them artsy movies.

i thought adjustment bureau was marketed as a much different film that it was. the trailer makes it out to be a thriller -- not even close. i thought it tried to hard to make some profound statement on faith.
********
super 8 was a modern day goonies. it suffered from too many special effects (as do many films these days). decent story but when it was all said and done, my reaction? meh.
*******
many have said margin call is among the best movies of the year because of its take on what is happening in wall street. i thought it plodded along and was not nearly the thriller it claimed to be.
********
as for tree of life, very very difficult to watch. many are picking it as the best of the year. it is a movie you either love or hate. i thought it was pretentious and hated it. i get the feeling critics love it because of its artsy nature -- and for that alone. add boring to pretentious.
**********
i have not watched the others and have not reviewed all the movies i watched during the year. however, off the top of my head, i think i'd pick "The Debt." great performances. written very well. thriller that keeps you guessing.

oreally,
are you serious in comparing Gov. Walker's "tactics" with Kristallnacht?
that event occurred in 1938 and was a two-day violent attack on Jews including ransacking of neighborhoods, businesses were destroyed, people were beat and by some counts upwards to 100 synagogues burned to the ground. yeah right -- exact same thing.

i have no idea what the incident was that triggered mr. brunner. all i know is my dealings with him have been fair and honest -- i have a great deal of respect for him.
we all have our moments -- most of those never make it to the newspaper.
my guess is mr. brunner is as remorseful as they come.
as the old biblical adage says, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone in."

howardzinn,
i do -- apparently i missed it in his/her post. if i did - my bad.
sounded more threatening to me (but then you can't always tell the intention of the written word -- especially in forums).
perhaps koch_bros can elaborate in his/her defense.

Koch_Bros:
regarding bill sodeman, you said, "And nice new glamour shot Sodemann. I got plans for you son!"
are you threatening him?
i hope not -- whatever you may think politically, making threats to someone's life should be more than enough to ban your comment.
please explain.

On Hello Wisconsin! Bands that impress in concert

i saw zz top at the rko orpheum in davenport, ia in 1974 -- loudest concert i've ever heard (and in a small room). i think i still have hearing loss from that show
*******
if quality is the question -- i saw marshall tucker play three times in the 70's -- hands down the hardest working band i've ever watched live. never a bad performance, always included the hits while breaking out new material. and i don't think they ever played less than 2 1/2 hours.
******
vote #2 -- j. geils band (saw them three times in the 70's)
band was always tight and peter wolf knew how to entertain the crowd
**********
vote #3 -- James Taylor -- saw him a couple different times. his band was always spectacular - as was he.
