On Darien board to meet Dennison

I agree with the copperguy in that Mr. McCue has a greater respect for the law in his role on the board, and I feel that it was especially lacking under Metzner's administration.
I too am saddened by McCue's stroke, but I feel God is on his side because he is such a steward for 'good' and 'honesty' in his role as a board member representing the people who elected him.
I too, wish the best for him and his family, and for a complete recovery.
Whether the prior board members initially against DeVoy have seen the light about saving the villagers money by avoiding the hearing remains to be seen.
Has it been cancelled, or is it still on for Monday?
When can we know what happened when the chief met with the board to tell his side of things? And why did it take so long for them to be willing to hear the other side?
Does the 'experienced' board member Wenzel now see that maybe the chief was railroaded?
I sure have seen it, merely by looking up the village's meeting minutes in the couple months prior to his suspension.
One would hope for brighter days to come in Darien after the DeVoy issue is settled.

Everybody calm down a minute and look at the logic. I realize tensions are high and lines have been drawn. Review facts.
The chief was suspended / put on admin.leave / then terminated. By the village board.
1) The village board acted illegaly according to Wisconsin law. This is true - look it up.
2) The guy never was disciplined in his 26 or 28 years on the job as chief, as I understand.
3) If I am correct, the prior VP may have made a FEMA claim that was questionable, there MAY have been improper nosing thru confidential Darien police records that the chief was concerned about, cameras were then installed by the Walworth County Sheriff Office to investigate, and the prior VP was instrumental in OVERRIDING police recommedations for who would be promoted to seargent.
Does anyone dispute these facts?
If not, it seems the village has no case against the chief. He would have needed to be disciplined at some point prior if he was thought to have done wrong.
It seems clear the prior VP had an agenda to get Devoy out of the way by refusing to hear his concerns before the board as requested (and this is clear on the village's website meeting minutes) and he promoted his own guy - Maltese, DESPITE recommedations of experienced officers and Chiefs who thought he was not right for the job.
It seems clear that Devoy won't be terminated at the hearing. I could be wrong. But the guy has an unblemished record and the board under Metzner was somehow blind.
Will be interesting to see if the current board votes to go forward with a hearing instead of settling with Devoy. I'd call it political suicide if they do not settle because it will cost the village THOUSANDS of dollars. Good luck getting re-elected if you vote to go ahead with a hearing.
By the way, justme2, you are an idiot. The current VP exhibits nothing but class, compared to a guy who used to tell the citizens to "sit down and shut up" at meetings. I have seen the difference, and it is a welcome change that respects residents.

2level - slam's comment has more bearing than you think. The authority is not a judge, but a hearing examiner. This is pretty much the only type hearing he presides over. He has extensive knowledge of statutes as they relate to police personnel. The way this case against the chief has taken on a life of its own is bound to raise red flags of impropriety.

I think DarienGal is really the husband.
She wears the pants in the family obviously and tells him what to say.

"So how is it that a non voting employee can break the Open Meetings Law? Is the new VP losing it already?"
That employee did not break Open Meetings Law, read my entry below to see how the board members may have done so.
That employee broke the terms of his own job description by neglecting to contact ALL members of the board, not just his 'favorites'.
Whether that employee went back to attorneys with the 'input' of JUST those board members is also an issue, as is whether those 'selected' board members spoke with each other. A CLEAR Open Meeting violation.
I would also not rule out craftymom2's observation. The representation of a 'biased selection' of board members as being the FULL board's opinion would certainly render those negotiations as invalid. This would seem to put DeVoy's right to 'fair' negotiation at a disadvantage.
The fact that you would attack the new VP and say she's 'losing it' suggests you are also biased.

Me2 your correct definition of a walking quorum neglected one important note. These 'meetings' can take place by telephone or e-mail and would also violate the open meetings law.
So what does Dennison mean when he says that he "did talk to four board members but did not direct negotiations"?
1.) WERE there 'negotiations'?
2.) Why did Dennison only choose to contact 4 members?
It seems clear that Mr. Dennison went outside the scope of his authority when attempting to manipulate negotiations. Yet at the same time he neglected his responsibility to inform ALL board members.
I tend to agree with others on here, from what I've seen, Mr. Abbott tends to vote with reason and not 'by association'. How did he get mixed up in this unfortunate circumstance?

I disagree, a minor child sat in a police car assuming that Metzners claim of being a police officer were true, and Donohoo is an incompetent representative of the people.

cmh you are clearly correct. The hearing against the chief SHOULD proceed.
That way, not only will it cost tens of thousands of dollars to the taxpayers of Darien, the chief will definitely be reinstated, and he can then file a wrongful termination suit, and also make a claim to have all his attorney fees paid by the village. That should result in thousands MORE dollars paid out by villagers.
GOOD CALL!
Not only is your rant against the copperguy idiotic, you're the one who needs to look at facts about the 'proof' against DeVoy.
I am against a settlement because it's people like you who need to see that a 26 year veteran police officer of Darien all of a sudden was called a bad guy because your weirdo ex president said so.
Bring on the hearing! Then you can backtrack and tell people why you were so wrong and clueless.
Why don't you crack your mind open a smidge?
