Now if they could only cut loose Farve and Childress the Vikings might have a chance to recover from a bad start.

reality_bites makes it very clear that those with advanced educations are the only ones deserving of a voice in this issue. After all those ignorant autoworkers were just cruising along do nothing for years, while enjoying hight pay!So the several million now unemployed citizens with college degrees must have taken the wrong majors? The truth is Janesville has lost several thousand very good paying jobs and they have nothing coming to replace that loss. Janesville taxpayers have been able to support a very high community lifestyle because it had all those good paying jobs. Now public employees including the teachers need to understand the future is not what the past was. Everyone will have to take pay cuts or the number of foreclosed homes will just increase. Raising taxes in a very high tax community would be stupid and counter-productive. I am so thankful I moved away to a place where people understand taxing doesn't create a good business environment and fiscal restraint is actually practiced.

Woody: Get over GM and your fixation on it. You must have either been unable to get hired there or been fired from there. It's GONE! Now for your second point. Don't worry because plenty of people will be leaving and all of you former GM haters will have Janesville all to yourselves. Enjoy the bleak future of poverty and high taxes!!

The death penalty was made ineffective by the appeals process. Waiting twenty to thirty years on death row isn't a fit punishment. If you kill a few innocent people along the way, so be it. Just speed up the damn process and you would clear out plenty of cell space. You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet!

The GM bashers will be still at it long after GM is just a faint memory. Too bad there's such ignorance in the city of my birth. GM provided ALL of the citizens with a much better living no matter where they worked and made Janesville a thriving small city for nearly 100 years. Let's see where the next big boost comes from? All you GM haters ought to be coming up with the ideas to replace those thousands of better than average paying jobs. Of course talk is cheap and all the jobs are now in China!

Aside from the stupid comment about Steve Ellis, Janesville will miss these jobs. For all the people jealous and still not convinced about the impact of losing GM and these other associated jobs, just wait a couple of years and see the carnage. Janesville had an above average standard of living directly connected to these very well paying jobs for many decades. Please tell me where the replacement jobs are going to come from? Does anyone really think there's anything that can't be done cheaper in China? Free trade has been a one-way deal and its effects are coming home to roost!

Come on people wake up and smell the coffee! This isn't about local or state governments losing jobs. It's about bad national trade policy over the past forty years. Ross Perot warned what the "free trade agreements" almost 20 years ago and told where the jobs would be going. Now that millions of jobs are in China, India, Mexico and other 3rd world countries and not coming back, where do you think the tax revenue will come from? Oh that's right we just need more education! Trust me there educated people in all of the countries mentioned and they will work for less than $3 an hour. How many of you can live on that?

Could you please stop blaming the state and local governments for the job losses? Please try to remember what a guy named Ross Perot said many years ago. The job losses in ALL states are a direct result of national trade policy. If you think otherwise then you must be living in a cave! Millions of jobs have gone to China, Mexico, India and other third world countries and they won't be coming back no matter how much you wish and hope. The bottom line is how much you're willing to work for and we American's cannot live on $3 an hour or less!

Janesville loves to spend the tax payers dollars like there's no tomorrow and if preserving history is such an important undertaking, let's try to buy Zachow's Bar outside the GM plant. You know "a little bit of heaven at the gates of hell". After all isn't that another rundown historic building crying to be saved?

On Protests, tension at Janesville School Board meeting

Apparently logic was not a required course for most of the Janesville teachers. Janesville's economy is no longer driven by high paying General Motors jobs and to just pretend nothing has changed is insanity. The taxes are already way too high for most residents and just thinking that covering the shortfall by continuing to raise them is a solution is more craziness. The population will continue to drop in the coming years without a major employer and the school enrollment with it. Wake up before there's nothing left!
