On Local churches using different strategies to tackle summer drop in attendence

Posted on May 14 at 7:37 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I can't believe that Jesus came to establish a religion called Christianity. He came to restore the relationship that we (humanity) had lost with his Father when sin entered the world. He came to give us His abundant life. (John 10:10) This is not about church attendance, or any other man-made religious ritual. This is about living in relationship with the one and only God, as that is what we were created for. I dare say that most of the things we do in the name of God have absolutely nothing to do with Him.

On Officers issuing more tickets after getting new software

JCK-- Yes, I probably do deserve a ticket at times, but after 20+ years of driving, going right past cops at about 7 over, I have not once gotten pulled over. This leads me to believe that those that do get pulled over really do deserve it. Yes, I do speed at times, never more than 10 over. But I don't tailgate people, don't drive while talking on the cell phone or texting, and don't drive after drinking alcohol. And I never run red lights. Yes, I am perfectly capable of being an idiot, but not on the same scale as the other idiots that I see every day that are just begging for a ticket. But if I ever do get pulled over, feel free to laugh at me, JCK. After all, if I'm willing to dish it out, I'd better be willing to take it.

I think more traffic tickets given out is an EXCELLENT thing. I'm always encountering idiots that think it's okay to tailgait me as if I were going 5 under when in reality I'm going 7 over. The speed limits will never be high enough for some people; they'll always be pushing it as much as they possibly can get away with. It actually warms my heart to see someone pulled over, since I see so many that should be but aren't. If you're ever pulled over by a cop and somebody drives by and hollers with joy through the window at you, that very likely will be me. Enjoy your ticket. I know I'll be enjoying it on your behalf.

On Janesville: Any tips on gratuity?

Posted on November 30 at 12:38 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I'd like to know if tips are expected at the Applebee's carside service. The wait staff come out to your car, take your money, and bring you your food. Seems to me like a tip is in order, but also seems to me like 15-20% might be too much for one brief encounter? Anybody have any thoughts on this?

jvillerdr-- You obviously missed the word "ridiculous" in my post. I wasn't talking about every lawsuit or every lawyer. But there's a lot of ridiculous lawsuits out there, and a lot of them get rewarded by settlements out of court. This seems extremely wrong to me. Lawyers bully people around way too much in this country, and why? It pays off. Lawyers don't get poor from suing people, that's for sure. They make a lot more money than I do, so don't even go there with me with that "why do they even bother" comment.

Behing every ridiculous lawsuit is a scumbag lawyer who is using someone's painful experience to line his/her pocket in the name of so-called justice. Makes me sick.

nomoremrniceguy-- that was hilarious. You just can't argue with someone that watches Monty Python.

On Freeze the teachers? Hard times raise hard question

Wow, I can't believe I just read this whole page of comments. I think my IQ just dropped a few points. I just want to say to all the teachers out there that I very much appreciate all that you do for our kids. I know I couldn't do your job. As a person who has had my profession trashed on this forum several times by ignorant people, I know how personal some of these comments can seem. But, I think most rational, reasonable people in Janesville do value you, more than you realize. It's just that the angry, bitter ones are more vocal about their opinions-- and they're definitely in the minority. I don't know what the right solution is as far as the money stuff, but as far as I'm concerned, I would never complain about you guys getting a raise. You deserve it, and then some. Don't let the whiners get you down!
