On Former General Motors workers build new lives

It is too bad that these people have to bash the place that provided them a great wage and place to work. We did take a transfer because my husband likes working at the plant and has no desire to do anything else. He did go to school while shut down but again doesn't mind the line worker job. It was the best thing for our family. It has not fallen apart and all our other family members are still in WI and we visit and they visit and friends visit. And all of the other transfers that we have met from Janesville love where they are now and would not go back even if Janesville re-opened. It is too bad that the Gazette doesn't highlight the people that have transferred and love it where they are and have made great new lives for themselves and their families. From this transfer we have met other people from Janesville that we never would have met if Janesville were still open and have made great close friends. All I know is my family is grateful that the plant closed or we would be in the same boring crappy rut that Janesville had reduced us to. It was the best thing that has ever happened to our family.

Check your facts before commenting. Out of state tuition is at least double at all UW system institutions, close to triple at UW-Madison. There is a great chart if you want to see rates, google UW System and search tuition on the site and you can pull up a pdf with all the tuition rates, etc.

Balman you need to shut up. You obviously do not pay attention to what the Hendrick's and ABC have done for the community. Jealous much?

FYI a teacher in my district with 10 years of experiance and those education credits of Bachelor +24 makes $47,000 with fully paid retirement and health insurance. I guess you were moving to the wrong places and for the wrong reasons.

my3boys, finally someone that has made a comment that is intelligent. We need to find compromise. Things need to change but not as drastic as this is calling for. And for the record I am a republican but this is a bit extreme, but they democrats running and hiding is ridiculous, grow up. No wonder the U.S. is in the state it is in, no one will talk and compromise. But something has to give somewhere.

I wish I only had to pay 1/2 the cost of my pension and 12.6% of my health insurance. I pay 100% of my retirement plan and 50% of my insurance. Stop the damn whining!

I am so sick of teacher's whining about being underpaid. In WI the number of hours that are required for school to be in session is 1,137, so for a teacher making $40,000 that is over $35/hour so if you actually worked a regular 40 hour 52 week job you would be making $73,000. I would say that is more than most people are making and this doesn't even include the benefits. Most of us have to pay for our own retirement thus cutting into our pay, unlike the teacher who we are also paying for their retirement. Not to mention the insurance benefits, where some of us are paying $500 a month for family care after our company pitches in for part of the monthy cost and then there are the deductibles every visit. Teachers have it great, so stop your damn whining. And anytime you pick up an extra activity you get paid for it and if you don't get your prep hour and have to teach a class you get paid extra. Oh and the 10 days of sick time per year that can be rolled over, really? Most places you are lucky to get sick days and if you do it might be 5, and again we are working more hours.

On Local weight loss clinic gains while its customers lose

This is the easy way out. You don't need shots and all that crap, you need to eat correct and exercise. Most of these people will gain back the weight once they stop going. Instead of paying the high prices for this fad diet use that money to get a personal trainer or dietician to teach you how to properly change your lifestyle. Anyone can lose weight when you are put on all sorts of appetite suppresants. And what are the side effects of these pills and shots? Are they FDA approved and even so look at all the past weight loss pills out there that were approved and are no longer because of the terrible side effects that show up later in life. Come on people, do the hard work, change the life style, and it all starts from within yourself, you have to change your mindset before you can change your physical self.
