First they came for the smokers, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a smoker.
Then they came for the drinkers and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a drinker.
Then they came for the obese, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not obese.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me. (My apologies to Martin Niemöller).

Quite ridiculous, both Steve and the people he is writing about. The parents should have had the good sense not to smoke around their kids. People like Steve should have the good sense not to support draconian indoor smoking restrictions. Why not allow smoking in adults only venues like bars (if the business owner prefers to cater to this type of clientele) and ban it in the precense of minors on public property? Might work as an acceptable compromise. Why can't we all just get along?
On Amendment could let teachers union modify compensation, save district $3.1 million

Amazing, reminding public employees that government serves at the will of the governed creats such an outcry. Is service such a bad thing? The higher the value of the service you provide, the higher your compensation will be. That is basic economics. All people are equal and valuable. However, the work people perform is not always valued the same. In some cases, government is paying more money than these jobs are worth on the free market. It has been out of balance for sometime now and it will have to be brought back into balance if our system is going to stay solvent.
I support all of us taxpayers that are finally asking for an accounting of how the money is spent.

No I don't have to remind the server, or the cashier at the store that my patronage is part of the reason they have jobs. They make me feel as if my business is appreciated. Maybe that's because they know that I have a choice where I spend my money and will go elsewhere if I receive poor service. This is not so with public employees. They know I can't take my tax dollars with me so it is sometimes tempting to remind them that we are the people they should be serving.

Thank you to the city of Edgerton for not bowing to misplaced political correctness.
The cultivation of tobacco as a crop was an important part of our history and drove the growth of many communities, including Edgerton. Celebrating our heritage is not the same as promoting the use of tobacco which we now know to be harmful. Instead of hiding from the past, we can embrace and learn from it.

The smart money bets she waits until the very last day to appeal, why not add 5 more days of stalling before the court fight begins.
Hang it up and let's move on!

Imagine if GM had asked for a "donation" from prospective car buyers. "Pay $300 more for your car because we aren't charging you what we could have charged you so we can preserve prevailing UAW wage and benefit packages." How many people do you think would have voluntarily contributed? Laughable when you apply this to the real world. No, GM had to ask the UAW to renegotiate contracts to save the company money. The school district should demand the teachers union do the same. A little contribution to their pension and healthcare, like all the rest of us have been asked to do, could save these jobs.

Are we really paying people $50,000 to clean a building? This is the whole problem in a nutshell. It is a WASTE of taxpayer money to overpay, by many times, for a service than its fair market value.

Russ Feingold doesn't want to be Governor-- that would require him to live in the state. He wants to be Senator again and go back to living inside the beltway where his heart really is.
