Funny we had a surplus in the budget... and then we didn't.

On UW System defends decision to condemn Madison bar

Pete,
The fact that it's popular doesn't have anything to do with their previous compliance to sell the property to the university.

On UW System defends decision to condemn Madison bar

They agreed to sell it already though... And for over 2 million dollars... Hm, I feel as though I know where this lawsuit is going to go.

Plus if anyone knows that building, it's probably the building in the worst condition on campus. My student org has its offices on the 2nd floor and it's hazardous even getting to the front door. There are loose steps and floorboards that are missing, the foundation is literally falling apart.

On Janesville man could get a second life sentence

The U.S. has a terrible prison system. The majority of offenders that enter prison return with another conviction within the first couple years they're released. It's a system that teaches criminals how to be better criminals, not better people. We should look into a prison system that's similar to Canada's. It may seem like an easy way out, but very few of convicted people in the Canadian prison system reenter later in life.

On University of Wisconsin studying hip hop

Posted on September 13 at 6 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I'm not into hip hop myself, but the roots of all types of music have amazing historical backgrounds that are worth being studied. How did I know that some closed-minded resident would immediately pounce on the opportunity to criticize the program? Hip hop is an entire culture that's relatively prevalent in U.S. today; its roots sprang in NY during the 70's and has since influenced music around the globe. I bet people would be more accepting if they would have titled it just as a new art program, rather than hip hop... even though that's what hip hop is, an art form.

On Cruising the strip remains a popular activity

Most of the kids that "cruise the strip" are obnoxious drivers that dangerously swerve in and out of traffic. So "pretty good" is getting pulled over three times in a year? I've had my license for 4 years and I've never been pulled over.

These kids' standards suck.

On Bear on prowl in Juneau County

All of my relatives live in the U.P. They have bears eating out of the gardens and bird feeders in their yards all the time during the warmer months. Not too unusual.

On Ryan touted as one of GOP's 'young guns'

I met Paul Ryan with my AP Government class on Wednesday here in Washington. I am a democrat; however, I still voted for Paul Ryan. He is an amazing politician.

On Public hearing set on Wis. Indian logos

The correct term is American Indian! Not Native American! Yes, if you were born in American you are "native American" which is why we use "American Indian" now instead. I am part of the KBIC Ojibwa tribe in the U.P. and find it particularly irritating when people call themselves "Native American" because their great grandmother's second cousin's friend was Indian. And not every tribe has a casino or profits from casinos! But more on subject, it really doesn't bother me if a high school mascot is an Indian; however, names should be limited to things like "the chiefs" or "the warriors"...

On GM security, police ready for last day of SUV production

Posted on December 20 at 10:10 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

It is absolutely awful to listen to the arguments that are happening here. "Foreign" cars like Honda and Subaru... etc also have manufacturing plants located within the U.S. which would mean these automakers ALSO supply jobs for U.S. citizens... It is important to be supportive of not just GM, but all of the companies that supply Americans with jobs during an economy like this.
