On Fourth of July celebration lacks community support

rickwantsmoney- the thermacell products work great for mosquitoes - good for those sitting around a table or just together on the ground.

And since I can see them from my house, I'll be sending something to the address. At least something got published.

On Fourth of July celebration lacks community support

unfortunately you bring about what you think about. It sounds like the attitude about the event was negative from the start. I would have to say some of that is probably left over from the Jaycees running it. The problem I see at this point is I have NEVER seen where I can donate to the event before the event. It was poorly advertised.
If anyone is going to do it next year, planning ahead for donations would probably be key and advertise the event.
I personally did not watch any fireworks this year. We went up north and camped instead and just enjoyed family.

On Immigrant groups seek driver's card, tuition break

Well I just sent off emails to Robson and Bendict. Unbelievable. There are too many people in the state that need help without helping those who are illegal.
I'm sure there are MANY better ways to use that budget money.

yes milton avenue businesses are affected. That is why blackbridge was listed separate from mt. zion. Depending on what side of milton avenue those are the roads as the starting point going north and east.

I did just talk to the health department because we are an affected business- the area does go north and east to affect Milton avenue all the way out to Rotamer Road.
Yes a map would be very nice.

does there always have to be so much negative on these blogs? Yes the swine flue is serious, but I also agree that with proper precautions, things will be fine. They have already stated that if it is raised to pandemic level- that DOES NOT mean a death toll. It just means that it is spreading amongst many countries/continents. Pandemic level has nothing to do with if it is deadly or not.

On What deters your children from walking/biking to school?

I find this discussion interesting. When my daughter was in grade school, she did walk to school which was probably 6-7 blocks total and included crossing Milton Ave. She did that 1st-4th grade. We moved when she was in 5th and so I had to drive her due to the distance (Kept her at same school).
Then when she went to middle school we drove due to distance as well- we had moved into the Milton school district (Janesville address) and could only go to Franklin. Too me that's a little far to walk. But I'd drop her off at a family members' home and she would take the city bus the rest of the way.
The city bus is very easy to use and my daughter didn't mind using it. Even in a pinch when she moved to HS at Craig and couldn't carpool- she would get on the city bus. I do agree that it's silly that non-city kids get free bus service but city kids have to pay to use the city bus.
My daughter is very independant now because I taught her how to be safe- but also how to not depend on me. And yes if she missed the bus- she figured how to get to school even if she ended up late.

On Getting up to speed on unemployment

ravenwolf- not sure why you think if you are fired you are not entitled to benefits. You are more likely to get benefits if you are fired vs. quitting. Though not everyone who gets fired receives benefits.
As an employer- I know that we get unemployment info for eligible individuals who were fired.
