A "mistake" is adding two numbers incorrectly or calling someone by the wrong name. What this girl did was not a "mistake." She chose to behave in an incredibly responsible manner and ought to be punished accordingly. She may not have intended to kill anyone, but a man is dead nonetheless.

Sorry, Mr. Angus. I don't buy your explanation of the headline. You say the incident is "unusual" and "unfortunate," and I agree. But as to making it fit in a small space, how about being more accurate and saying Cop kills armed man. What was unusual about the man? That he was from Clinton or that he was armed. If that's the best you can do under deadline, then maybe the editors need better training. Your bias is showing.
