Good call Cynicaleye. Who doesn't love biking and walking in Wisconsin from Nov to Feb? What a great idea!

Good to see racism is still alive and well in my hometown! WWII was over 60 years ago. Move on, the rest of the world has. The world is a totally different place. I wonder why I'm embarrassed to tell people where I grew up...

My grandfather was AT Pearl Harbor. It wasn't just a story to him. He saw many of his best friends DIE that morning at the hands of the enemy. And when he died 10 years ago he had a much better perspective on it than most of you. He wasn’t bitter or racist even when he had a real excuse to be.

How much more white trash can you get?

On Dear Sarah, be careful

Sarah just gets a little testy because her IQ, most likely around 70, places her right on "the line".

This woman went to 4 different colleges over a 6 year period to graduate. What a great example for America's youth. She couldn't remember "Energy" or "Lift American Spirits" or "Tax" and had to write them on her hand like a 7th grader cheating on a science test?

She's a total joke.

On Kafka leads Northwestern over Wisconsin 33-31

Will Bret join Charlie? Not with Wisconsin fans content to be slightly above average. At most schools a declining record (12-1, 9-4, 7-5) and poor recruiting would place you on the hot seat. Not up there though. I realize they've bounced back a bit this year (9 wins probably) but this is the worst the big 10 has been in 20 years and they didn't have to play Penn State. Maybe after he loses his 3rd straight bowl game people will start to come around.

Bielema is terrible. Anyone who has watched his teams over the last couple of years knew they'd lose this game. Thank god for betus.com!

On Jaloit/Beloiville

How about these stats? Open-mindedness Beloit - 1 Janesville - 0. I guess this is what happens when you're "local" for 40 years.

Frankly, the question "why has it always been this way" can be answered with one word in my mind. Racism. Janesville's population is 95% White, 1% African-American. Beloit's split is 75%/15%. I attended Craig (class of '97) and a common chant the students would do at basketball games vs. Beloit was "That's alright, it’s okay, you're gonna work for me someday." It disgusted me then and it disgusts me now. The fact is that things like this were tolerated for far too long.

I grew up in Janesville and moved away as fast as I could. I went to college at UW-Madison and got the same "you must be racist if you're from Wisconsin's home of the KKK" comments/attitude that some other posters mentioned. It was embarrassing. I've lived in NYC, Connecticut, SF and Chicago (last 6 years, current) so I've actually got experience living somewhere besides southern WI. I'd be willing to bet the percent of the population of these two cities that have ever lived 50 miles from Janesville/Beloit is about 10%. That is my opinion of why it this "rivalry" still exists.

On Sloppy play allows Buccaneers to blindside reeling Packers

Posted on November 9 at 8:31 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

All I heard this preseason was how awesome the Packers were going to be. They had this super sweet offense that was lighting everyone else up! When I suggested that it was because it was the preseason and nobody gameplans my friends looked at me like I was crazy! They would say even if the offense doesn't keep this up we've got our new 3-4 defense ready to take the league by storm! Nevermind the fact it takes your best defensive player and forces him to play out of position. And look around the league...anyone with a successful 3-4 defense has LBs that look a little different than the ones on the Packers.

Q:I wonder what happened?
A:Their coach tried to pull a fast one on everybody...maybe if I overhaul my defense I can buy myself another couple of years before people figure out I'm not a very good coach!

The Packers have about 5x the talent of my Bears yet they're just as bad. And I thought Lovie/Turner was a bad coaching combo.

On Twins get J.J. Hardy from Brewers

Wow Brewer fans are dumb. This is a fantastic deal for you guys. JJ sucks. I know everyone loved him because he played really well for the first month of the season a couple of years ago and the ladies swooned when he came to the plate. But the guy isn't very good. He's also got very little trade value. I'm surprised the Crew was able to get someone with the amount of talent Gomez has. Sure he hit .230 last year and hasn't lived up to the hype...YET. The kid is never going to be a .320 hitter but he has the potential to hit .270-.280, get on base at a good clip, and steal 50+ bases a year. He's also one of the best defensive OFs in the league.

Look, your pitching sucks. Nobody is going to trade for Bush or Suppan like someone else recommended in a post. They're worthless. But what can help bad pitching is good defense. Your team is now very solid up the middle (Escobar/Gomez) defensively. They'll let Cameron walk, freeing up a decent amount of cash to be used on a pitcher. Of course they'll sign Washburn since he's from Wisco and you guys will all automatically love him even while he goes 10-10 with a 4.25 ERA.

What your team SHOULD do is deal Fielder for a couple arms, toss Gamel over to 1B, and win with pitching, defense, smart base-running and power from guys like Braun/Hart/Weeks/Gamel. Hopefully you'll keep Prince and continue to sign re-tread SPs who won't help you win. But the fans will keep packing the stadium to see the HRs and the untucked shirts after Ws.

On Proposal would criminalize driving drunk

Posted on October 9 at 4:36 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

You realize Wisconsin is the ONLY state that doesn't do this? Criminalize first offenders that is, I'm not sure about stats on states that do or do not use check points.

Your argument about the possibility that drunks will rear-end people is based on pure speculation. They might try a U-turn and cross into oncoming traffic too, right? Maybe they'll just pass people on the right and blow through the checkpoint. How about we give it shot and see how it goes?

This will keep more people safe. What is wrong with that? Sometimes we need to pay a price (inconvenience in this case) in order to make the world a better place.
