An animal rights activist group, Mercy For Animals,

"The group said that tossing male chicks, which have little value because they can't lay eggs or be raised quickly enough to be raised profitably for meat, into grinders is common industry practice and that an estimated 200 million male chicks are killed a year. Here is a novel idea, if you want to play a high cost sport, plan ahead for it. Get a summer job and make $300. Put it away in your piggy bank and save it. Then when it is time to pay for your sport, break out your saved $300 and you pay for it. Teaches you the value of, earning your own money, saving, planning, budgeting and pride in paying your own way. Learn to live in the real world today; not sucking off of someone else’s hard earned money.
