I am glad we are finaly taking a step forward with a Mental Health Court. Mental illness is a disease not a crime, and if you do your own resarch you will see the pro's far excede the con's. Why do we need to spend the money on research as to what our community needs, why don't we form a task force of experts from within our community along with advocates, and consumers nobody knows our comunity better. Then we can put the money to good use and move this forward.

My thoughts and prayers go out to this family. Suicide is preventable yet many people are so affraid of the stigma that they are not willing to learn the warning signs and what they can do to help some one who may be suicidel. We all never think it will happen to us or our family, untill it does.
As a survivor and from knowing other survivors I can tell you it happens to people from all walks of life and if you are a survivor you have a higher risk for suicide yourself.

Yes we do have kids in middle scool in gangs, or trying to become gang members like older siblings or friens. We also have a lot of kids that have no gang affiliation being acused of being in gangs just because they sit at lunch with sombody or talk to them in the halls.
The scools are labeling these kids wothout any proof. All that does is make the kids think if I am being accused I might as well be one. Wrong message the scools are trying to send. What ever happened to innocent to proven quilty.

I never thought it could happen to me or a loved one until it did, unfortunately I did not get involved in suicide prevention until it was to late for my dad. But because of my fathers death I did get involved and I also know from first hand experiance learning the warning signs, learning how to talk with someone who is suicidal, and how to get them help does save lives.
And I will tell you nothing is more rewarding than getting a thank you from some one who is grateful to be alive.
I hope many of you will get involved, learn the warning sign's and how you can make a differance. Please do not wait until it is to late.
