On A new focus: Police officers' roles changing

Posted on December 19 at 8:22 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I think this is such an awesome way for police Officers to interact with kids! It's a positive reminder for all children, including the ones not on the shopping trip, that cops are not mean. In my opinion, having two children myself, kids are more afraid of cops. Over the years kids have learned that someone talking with a police officer is naughty and they're in trouble, more than they are available to help you and someone you should trust.

On Janesville School Board reinstates resource officers

Posted on June 15 at 7:16 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I am rather confused as to why the Janesville School District is paying for the three officers? Last I knew, the JPD wasn't a private security company. If the city of Janesville needs officers at these locations to keep children and the public safe, this should be a city funded arrangement should it not? I see the JPD sit at school crosswalks watching for speeders before and after school...is this paid by the Janesville School District? The money should be used for educational resources and the city should be covering the JPD expense. Sounds to me the city is trying to push off their responsible costs onto non-responsible people....

On Testing teachers: New evaluation process focuses on results

Isn't this something that should be done every year? A teacher may start out great, and then over the years becomes worn out on the job. Just like anybody else and their jobs. A review is something a majority of the public gets on a yearly basis, why are teachers any different? I want my kids to have a good teacher based on their skills, and talents, not just because they've been a devoted teacher for 15 years.

On For both news and entertainment, do you watch more network television (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX) or cable television (CNN, FX, HBO, etc.)? Why?

Posted on October 4 at 7:35 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

My reason for choosing network is because I can go online anytime of the day to see the current news. Versus, the TV, I have to wait for commercials, soap operas, etc. I can click on the story I want to know about without listening to all the ones I am not interested in. Basically, it's all based time.

Why do I feel like if I were to drive by the location of this sited mystery lizard, that I would find 200 people in lawn chairs sitting around a fishing pole with a wounded chicken on the end in the middle of the streets?? LOL!

I just remembered...Tuesday afternoon...we had some really nasty storms come through. I bet the poor guy heard lightening hit close by, and spooked! Makes sense! It poored and poored that afternoon. Obviously, he was scared.

Animal Control?? Obviously nobody realizes there is no animal control specialists. The police department is the animal control department. RCHS is not responsible to catch loose running animals. What our officers should have are dart guns to shoot the animal at a distance and wait until they fall asleep. At least then you can investigate the situation BEFORE it gets out of control...for example...hitting it with a truck!

On Stranger danger incident near Afton

Amazing..a possible kind gesture makes the paper, and yet my daughter and her friend were almost kidnapped last November and not a word. While at the Janesville Vet Clinic on Milwaukee street, it was dark at only 6pm. My cat was really mad and not thinking I told my 10 year old and her friend to take our cat out to the car, while I quickly paid the bill. However, I was waiting for medicine too, and it took a few minutes longer. While waiting, I was not aware that a man and a younger lady were trying to get into my car! Thank God all the doors were locked, but these people tried all the car doors and made several attempts to break in. These people knew the girls were in the back seat, and threatened to break in. When I came outside, both the girls were on the floor of the car crying and scared to death! My daughter to this day is still scared and watches for the vehicle they drove. We spoke to officers and they said they would look in the area. Case...dropped. A month later, same description of vehicle and persons of interest tried to get an 11 year girl into their vehicle in Oregon. I called Oregon Police and gave them our story. I guess Janesville Police decide whether they believe the incident is important or not.

Remember everyone, people make mistakes. If you've been lucky enough to have NEVER made one yourself then you are one in a million. The most important thing is I believe these two have a young child together...it doesn't matter if you see this as stupidity, a mistake, or if it was raining or not raining...this child just lost a father, and mother is hanging on by a thin thread. Lets think about that for a minute....
