On Police: Woman drove drunk with baby in car

Posted on July 19 at 9:43 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

"...third-offense of driving while intoxicated." Third time! The measures put in place do not deter this behaviour. How many times have we read someone has died at the hand of a drunk driver only to find that this will be the drivers multiple offense? The technology is available to prevent the vehicle from operating if you are intoxicated. Isn't it time to mandate it? Granted there are ways around the system, maybe we can at least screen a majority of these selfish intoxicated people from operating 3500 lb bullets. Even one off the road would make our families safer.

Isn't mail tampering a federal offense? 911 should have gotten you a response. If it didn't you should call 911 and talk with a supervisor.

On Town of Beloit will get fire station plans

Phil Taber was wise in supporting the new 5 bay fire station and remodeling station 2 option. For $75,000 LESS this community would have two Fire Stations. Instead now they will have one new station and a second station that is plagued with ongoing problems. The second station services the East side of Beloit Township. Granted, station 2 is not manned 24 hours a day, even though there are two schools less than a mile from its location, its value to the community for current utility and future service cannot be overstated. The Town of Beloit Fire Department services approximately 50 square miles, two stations are far from every corner and may even be too few.
With the projected growth of the Township it would be wise to think in terms of the future protection needs of the area, than the past operational deficiencies. We should restore the Inman station and build to serve, rather than to set up this station up for eventual decay and destruction.
I would imagine that losing this station would create a lowering of the fire departments rating; resulting in an increase in YOUR annual insurance costs. This figure has been stated at being an average of $100.00 a year, per homeowner. That is not including commercial property. It has been said that business is what supports communities; how can you draw them in, or even keep them, if you are not maintaining the proper infrastructure to support them?
So why not, in this day of economic woe, spend $75,000 dollars less on this project and save the taxpayer $100.00 in increased annual insurance costs? With that much savings and benefit to our taxpayers Phil Taber, in my opinion, made the wisest choice by supporting the remodel of Inman Station and constructing the new Station. It is sad that this choice was not the one that passed. I would imagine that there is still time to voice our opinions as the concrete has not been poured yet.
