On AP sources: Ill. prison to get Gitmo detainees

Zoom, Apparently you don't remember that the atrocities that you are talking about occured at the Army-run Abu Grahib Military Detention Center, not the USMC-run Gitmo.

On Marine fighting Whitewater for repair costs

Matt, Harumph to you for putting your money where your mouth is. More people should do that. I really don't have the money to spare, but as a former Marine, I feel for 1st Lt. Cull. So, therefore, if he cannot resolve this issue with the city of Whitewater, I will volunteer my time and tools to help him restore his home. It's the best I got. He can contact me at penjo1@charter.net. Semper Fi.

On Cleaning up, crash after crash

Displaced worker, you got me on the difference between "should" and "could". Should they move...No, could they move...yes, but why? They have been there long before the bypass was put in and they should have been considered or consulted by the DOT as to the dangers they were open to. As to you answering to "what do I know"?, it was a rhetorical question,(you do know what rhetorical means don't you) therefore requiring no answer whatsoever. I DO know that by your handle 'displaced worker", that I am most likely more intelligent than you because I have been able to retain my job. You really should step back and think before you bite off more than you can chew

Displaced worker. Please explain to me why Clint and Cheri should move. I know them and know that they have been at their place long before the 11 Bypass came along. Seems to me that maybe, just maybe, the WDOT could have done just a little more planning when the bypass was layed out. Maybe moving the intersection a 1/4 mile East or West would have allieviated the problem, but what do I know, someonew with a higher paygrade than me made that decision. Clint and Cheri, just keep soldiering on as always, Charlie.

On Pastor convicted of obstructing justice

Is Pastor Dave the pastor at the Overflowing Cup that is a former Biker (not sure if it was Outlaws or Hell's Angels) and has a 1%'er tattoo? If so, maybe that explains his reluctance to be cooperative. If I have called out the wrong pastor, I apologize.

Janesvillecomments, LOVE the angle that you took on your blog! Maybe we are on the same page...JUST a little too much command and control by the Janesville Gazette? They DO control free speech context and expression when they "OFFER" a format to freely express ourselves through the blog system
, but on certain sensitive subjects the blog site has been "disabled by the staff". Why offer a "blogging forum" if you(the Janesville Gazette) are not willing to hear what your reading public have to say? Shouldn't anyone have the opportunity (within the realm of decency) to say what they think or feel? Mostly, the disabled sites have to do with sensitive subjects such as local government issues that the Gazette supports or an issue with certain local officials that they may find embarrassing. Why exempt these people or subjects of the article from scrutiny or comment by the common man? No matter the subject, if the paper reports it, it SHOULD be subject to open discussion. I personnaly feel that NO local paper should take any side or political agenda. I feel that they should be there to report the news as it happens, when it happens and how it happens with no editorializing(Just the facts ma'am), save this for the editorial page. If I am wrong, I am open-minded enough for debate and discussion, argue your point with me and maybe I will be swayed. I fell stongly enough about this to not hide behind my user name and open myself to debate. So feel free to e-mail me, Charlie Gilmore, at penjo1@charter.net, BUT only if you want to have an intelligent and open discussion. Gazette personnel are more than welcome to reply.

Jake, I for one, as a Former Marine, am proud of you and hope for the best or you. KLICK... this is totally the wrong forum for you to be spouting your politics. Keep it within the context of the article. I am not saying you haven't the right to say what you feel you need to say, only to choose an appropriate place to do it, and this isn't it. Just curious, KLICK, have you ever served? Probably not. Would you like to compare DD214's with me, or better yet, how about with Jake? Maybe I am going off on a bit of a tangent here, but it infuriates me that you belittle the Honor, Integrity and Sacrifice that this young Marine has made to push your politics. Jake, Semper Fi, enough said.

On Man charged with sex assault

It doesn't happen often, but I agree with "the kid"'s post... Bear with me while I explain... My gal and I have been together for 9 years. she is 48, I am 42...6 years age difference, no big deal. When she was 38, I was 32...no big deal. When she was 28, I was 22...no big deal(actually really kinda cool). If she was 18 I would have been 12(does anyone here see where I am going with this?). Somewhere in there a level of maturity developes, but it d**n well isn't at 12 or 14 years old! Age and maturity are relevent to this situation, 6 years difference at fortysomething is so much different than 6 years difference in your teens. One of these two needed to take the higher ground on this and be the mature and sensible one...who do you think should have been that one?

On Officer hammers drunken drivers

Maybe the gang and drug units should work with the same amount of zeal(or overzealousness) of Officer Welte. Oh, that's right, Janesville doesn't have gang or drug problems.
