On Lothian staffer announces run for Assembly

I wish once and for all those left-wing liberals and local democrats would realize that someone gave them a chance to prove themselves in a job, once upon a time. They didn't have experience either. If you understand the process enough to run a legislator's office, your degree is in Poli-Sci and you have a platform of goals and values, how could you be more qualified? Now that he has dropped out of the election, you are probably doing the happy dance... you should be ashamed of yourselves. Grow up and move out of Junior High.
On Cheerleading for Christ in public schools

I can't believe the oddballs weighing in on this issue. First, DiGriz, the Pilgrims came to get away from King George, not establish a colony for him! Secondly, no where does any constitutional document refer to lack of religion. The document and amendment in question were designed to keep the U.S. from being ruled like Italy, Germany, France and England at different times. When the church unduly influences government processes like the Pope forcing a King to rule a specific way or a government sanctioned church gets tax funds or is the sole religion recognized, the people as a whole are unfairly influenced. If the Church of England taxed its congregants and it was the only one recognized people began to realize that they were not represented. They came to the new world and began a country that was not ruled by a particular church. It was never intended that religion not be part of daily business, education, government dealings, etc....just that everyone not be held to or taxed by a single, particular religion or church body. So to deny the cheerleaders the right to demonstrate their own beliefs in a freetime activity when we encourage free independent thought is denying them basic rights. I don't believe what a Hindu, Jewish or Muslim cheerleader might want to say publically, but i won't deny them the right to say it. Why is it so threatening to you to see someone profess their faith. Are you so insecure in your own existance that you would deny someone else the right to profess their own convictions? What if someone donated the paper and paint involved? Why in recent years has the minority become the winner in so many cases? We are built upon majority rules.

I love mankind and law abiding citizens who truly care for others. What makes me appear MEAN might be the "parents"(sperm and egg donors) who care more about being friends to their children, how HAPPY the kids are and believing everything their children say, no matter what transpires. Children are naive and beautiful gifts from God. It takes the warped teachings from people that believe things like "everybody does it", "rules are meant to be broken", "if I discipline my child they will hate me and run away", "yelling at a child harms them for ever", "children shouldn't have to do anything they don't want to do", etc., etc. Parent is a verb as well as a noun....if done properly it is the hardest job on earth...if done wrong, society will pay for it for ever. I may not have biological children of my own, and I may not teach your children, but if we don't get to the place where we can respect each other and each others' jobs in the community we will never move forward. When these students heal and come home, they deserve the support of a united community. One that doesn't blame them for the Tping or the accident. One that doesn't blame the adult in question for the alleged chasing...ONE COMMUNITY BEHIND THE GROWTH AND HEALING FOR THEIR SAKE. AMEN!
On Families dismiss lawsuit against Whitewater schools

What could the students do to deserve all of this? The entire school district and city know who they are and what they are asking for. At that age would anyone ask for that if they didn't feel some sort of threat?

Most of us hate to see lawsuits against schools, because of the resources wasted on such a case that could be used to improve situations. I know the families in question and they obviously felt slighted and concerned over the way the situation was handled. This is not so much a money issue, as it is a policy and procedural issue. If the administration would have jumped into an appropriate mode immediately, we wouldn't be reading or writing about this issue and one family wouldn't have moved out of the potential that Whitewater offers. Get it right from now on Whitewater. I grew up a poor White child in Walworth county all my life. We had black friends and my generation had no major problems. Such feelings are learned and more than likely come from a parent who is so close minded or threatened that they pass along the ignorance that created this experience. Get over color issue. I don't own a black car...not because I don't like the color...it is just too hot. I wear black clothes when approriate because it makes me look thinner. Black skin is not a threat to anyone. Deal with people on the human level and love the rich experience.

A) I never said that the accident in 1983 was during homecoming activities...
B) In terms of the way and time of their death I stand corrected and appologize, but before we left work at Northwestern Military and Naval Academy that day we were told about the accident and the details given us were those I stated below. Again, I stand corrected.
On Are schools wise to teach Mandarin Chinese?
Posted on October 4 at 2:53 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
While I agree that is more efficient to teach a second or third language at an earlier age, I have at least two misgivings with this program. First, why would a single language be mandatory? Languages other than English have always been electives. While my five years of German made me a better English student, I would not force it upon anyone. Secondly, we have far too many students who struggle with the core classes throughout school. To add another mandatory class requires either a longer school day or less time in Math, Science, History, etc. We are so far behind the world in education already, that to cut back on the basics would be a shame. Lastly, why Chinese...how many of the Janesville students will ever get to China? We are being taken over by the minority that speaks Spanish...soon you will not even have the option of doing business in English... Rethink the program...we lack the money and time to properly teach in English, now we are going to make Chinese mandatory?

I have had paintballs shot at my car and house, I have had flamming bags of dog manure set aflame on my doorstep at 3:30 am, I have had death threats from students' parents. I have been hit in the classroom and all sorts of unmentionable things said to my face by both students and parents. I don't feel it anymore. When you kick a dog long enough, it starts to bark and bite back. I am still amazed at how you can admit that while TPing is not legal, that we should let it happen, just because we have to let kids EXPERIENCE things like this "its a tradition" So were a great number of other things that liberals like you have fought to elliminate. It is amusing that when it is something YOU want to continue it is suddenly harmless...I'll let the next group TP my house and when I get the bill from the city and my HOA for the mess, I'll send it your way...NOW let's get back to praying for the safe return of these precious youth so that they can grow into the role models and leaders that they have the potential to be.

1) I never said toilet paper hurt siding...the students in my case threw canned goods at steel siding leaving dents
2) Toilet paper does not dissolve! You have to go out and rake it up and hope and pray that the stuff in the trees comes down before you get charged by the HOA or city for having a house that looks like hell.
3) My biggest point is still wasted on most of you....why not teach these kids to use the money, time and resources wasted on TPing to HELP someone instead of making more work for them????

On Report: UWW has highest number of sex assaults
Posted on October 25 at 4:35 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
@my_3_kids: Read the article...Whitewater had more reported assaults... Green Bay had a higher RATE per thousand... i.e. they had fewer students for the number of assaults - so the rate is higher in GB. 41 will always be larger than 29. Don't bust the chops of a proofreader before YOU re-read it. As for the assaults... Much of this comes from parents who let their kids run wild from middle school age on up...As a HS teacher, I have students who don't get home all week long... I was in my bed every night. To be done correctly, PARENTING has to be an ACTIVE verb! You have to work at it... The kids get used to doing what they want and take advantage of others all throughout their lives.
