It looks a lot better to the public to volunteer to go talk to the DA than to be charged and have to go in. Plus, you get a feel for what they really have on you, which would help you to plan your next move.

I like Walker's spin on hiring the best defense attorney's so that he can "aid" in the investigation: "To assemble additional background information, I hired counsel to insure that I am in the best position possible to continue aiding the inquiry."
I would say too the the DA has a pretty strong case. They wouldn't be wasting a bunch of time and their reputation pursuing a big case if they didn't have something to back it up.

I would say they are looking to tap into some cheap or free money that will be coming to the State via the ecomonmic stimulas package signed the day before. Give it a week and you will see them leveraging the move with the promise of how many construction jobs and full time jobs this project will create.

Could someone shed some light on what Bruce mentioned at the end of the story about being out the $400k that is still owed to them if this latest acquisition doesn’t go through? I can’t envision how they wouldn’t get the money that is owed to them from the original contract.
Isn’t all of this a legal and financial no brainer? Bruce doesn’t want sell=the trust can’t be broken. Besides, 120acres at $4.2k=a half million dollars. A few articles ago said they would sell 52 lots at a minimum of$60k. That comes out to $3.1 million. That is a huge difference in what everything is worth. I too can’t believe the Town is wasting their time listening to all of this. How can the land be rezoned when one party in the trust doesn’t want it to be?

I agree with you Sarah. People rip on the plant workers, but do not realize how the rest of the community depends on them. Half the wage means that half the money will make it to the local economy. That means less bought new vehicles, less money at the local restaurants and shopping malls, fewer people being able to afford new houses, etc. Which intern will cause businesses to down size and construction to slow. In effect hurting even more people’s lively hood and chances to find good paying jobs in the area. What about all the nice houses in town? With limited funds they will sit for sale for a long time or people are going to lose a lot of their investment in order to pawn them off. I don’t get a warm fuzzy feeling about all of this.
I feel for the 20, 30, and 40 year olds that work down there. They have some big decisions to make. The buyout might sound like a lot of cash up front, but long term it is not. Where are these folks going to find a comparable job in the community? Let’s say they stick it out, how long will it before the union has no bargaining power and they are down to $14/hr? Or worse yet, they pull the pin on the whole operation down here.

4 year old kindergarten? When did they start 5 year old kindergarten? A hundred years ago when I started school you had to be six years old to get in. It sounds to me like this is a state funded day care program, which will be financed by the taxpayers. They can’t afford to pay our teacher already, now they will have to hire more. Plus, there isn’t enough space as it is.
I would like to comment too on the referendums to build more classrooms. How about not allowing school choice anymore? I am not sure of the exact numbers of choicers, but I would think if they didn’t come that there would be more class space for the locals. I hate to be an ahole here, but how about buying a house in the jurisdiction you want your kids to attend?

Doc, way to go. You echo my sentiments exactly. I wish you would have tied in all the high paying factory and tech jobs that have gone over seas. That is another rant waiting for another day, but I puke every time I see people bragging about there foreign cars and how much better they are, knowing how that is killing our country. Danged right with peeing in a cup. I have to do the same.
Anyway, you really can’t blame the people for signing up for Badgercare. If the bank was handing out $50 bills the line would be long. This is Doyle’s fault. Where is all this money going to come from? Last week I heard there was a $400 million dollar deficit and he was scratching to find cuts to cover it. Looks like the middle class is going to get bent over again. Last week while paying my Alliant bill I noticed a $3 extra charge on there. It was a State mandated charge to all customers to help people who can’t pay their utilities make it through the winter. Where is this going to end?
I wonder if the mass migration to Wisconsin has started already? Doc is right, more people equals less jobs that will pay even less. I wonder how this will play into the employer’s ways of thinking. Now he doesn’t have to offer insurance in his package or he can cut it if he has it, the state has it covered.
I am all for helping the kids. They are innocent and are our future. I hate these programs that start out as a helping hand and end up turning into a way of life for people.

I am a union construction worker and danged happy to be one. We recruit non-union people. Most make half of wages we do for doing the same work. When jobs come out for bid, union and non-union contractors are within thousand dollars of each other on million dollar projects. With that being said, when non-union contractors get the jobs they are making tremendous profits at the workers expense. I disagree with the opinions that this is just a Woodman’s issue. All unions should support one another. Those people are your friends, your neighbors, your family. I don’t want to see them lose out. I would like to hear where the anti-union Woodman posters work. No need to name your employer, just tell me what type of job you have.

It is funny how people will never accept responsibility for their actions. It is always someone else’s fault. Too bad her kid had to witness the whole event. I wonder what life’s lesson this has taught him. I wonder why the town wrote that ordinance in the first place? Probably because they got sick of being nice guys and waiting around for two hours waiting for someone to show up to move a vehicle. It mentioned in the story that the officer watched for a half hour. To me, that is a half hour that he could have been on the road doing his job. She should be grateful he stuck around that long. I am betting the cop called the tow truck because the vehicle was stuck a lot harder than they want to admit. Moral of the story: If you are going to drive around without a license, be prepared to pay the consequences.
