On Do you support dropping of Saturday mail delivery?

I personally don't have a problem with a company trying to save money. Ending weekend delivery sounds like a sound business plan to me.

Oh please! Like their board didn't have anything to do changing the contracts and city fees? I would think they would have to approve something that important, especially when dealing with money. Sounds more like they used her as a scapegoat for their OWN decisions and mistakes!
On Killer cats prowl your bird feeders

I'm guessing that those numbers aren't completely accurate. If you check closer it will most likely show that the majority of the cats killing birds are true ferals, and not well fed pets that irresponsible owners allow to roam at will. If a pet is owned, it should be spayed and not allowed to run loose on purpose. Give the owners tickets and I'm guessing they won't run loose anymore.

Some of us don't have the luxury of staying home when we are scheduled to work. Wish they'd make some sort of law to protect us if we get injured or have accidents because we have no choice but to go out in this crap. On the other hand I have never had an accident in the 40 years I've been driving. Yes, I'm the slow poke that's ticks everyone behind me off, but at least I'm not sliding into the ditch!
On What to do with all those cats, dogs?

Too many people are missing what the actual problem is. RCHS is, and has been for a long time, taking in strays from contracted areas. (RCHS not being a Govt facility yet offering services, the cities and towns can pick and choose who to use or how to do their own animal control so to speak. Unfortunately it has been very little to none in some areas, from what i've heard most just don't do anything. How about blaming the cities and towns for their OWN lack of services that YOUR tax dollars are paying for?) What RCHS is not able to do is take OWNED pets police are seizing from owners for whatever reasons. These are not strays so are ineligible to observed the 7 day holding period, ultimately they have to be held indefinitely until the owners court case is completely concluded. And we know that could take months, or even years to finish. The poor animal would be in limbo that whole time, and who do you expect to pay for that? The owner who most likely has no money? The police who seized the pet? Or the humane society who isn't equipped for long term quarantined holding? And what about the pet who would be forced to live in a cage indefinitely? It would NOT be a very "humane" way for it to live, but its the law! As for injured pets, RCHS has no Vet on staff therefor no way to treat them. DCHS has Vets on staff to give immediate care and treatments. I tell you what, if it was MY pet that accidentally got loose and hurt, I would be very grateful that he was being cared for, rather than euthanized right away for treatable injuries.

On Police: Janesville boy's bb gun causes scare

A BB gun is NOT a toy, they can be dangerous. My daughter was shot with one and almost died of a brain hemorrhage becuase of where it entered her skull. I think the police handled it very well in this instance, although I would like to think that a 12yo child would know it was wrong to point it at people. My son is only 10 and he even said the kid should have known better.

From reading the article, it seems the focus is on owned pets only. So instead of law enforcement needing to pass the problem along to an agency forcing them to absorb the costs, why not hold the pet owners responsible for their own pets legally and financially? How about issuing citations for neglected and abandoned pets instead? Make the owners pay for thir pets like the rest of us responsible pet ownets? They certainly can't force other businesses to provide cheap or free services, so why try and do it with "owned" pets?
On Must Janesville police drive animals to Dane County?
Posted on September 27 at 6:54 a.m. ( Suggest removal )
I have a novel idea... How about the police enforcing the laws regarding abusive and neglectful pet owners, instead of taking the animal away and dumping it at a shelter who's forced to absorb the cost? Why are so many people bashing the humane society for problems that society created. Do you take your kids to the grocery store and demand they get fed "Because that's what your there for?" Just sayin...

neweyes- I guess I didn't elaborate enough- I didn't mean to sound like I was railing against them, and I do agree with everything you said. I was just saying that I felt the board used her to take blame for their actions. I think she did a great job turning the place around, lowered the euthinazia rate, and having been there many times myself when my brother worked there, and always felt they did everything they could to help put all the animals there in good homes.
