On Gravel quarry plan generates controversy

Posted on February 10 at 4:38 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

partarican1, sigma is unable to understand the whole picture here, I am always surprised at the amount of off the cuff remarks that some people make on some these issues. As you are aware of, these type of sand and gravel deposits are typically 30-50 feet deep in this area. They dig it out until they hit bedrock (limestone here). Now there is a 30-50 foot hole in the ground that usually collects water. No, sigma, putting the 2 or 3 feet of topsoil onto the bedrock on the bottom of a 50 feet deep hole in the ground is not quite putting the site back to original.

I believe this site is something like 68 acres, just for a rough guess, this might take 20 or more years to deplete the deposits, if that is what the miners have in mind. Then there would be another 20 or more years of dump trucks bringing in "clean" fill to fill in the hole before the topsoil would be reapplied.

On Do opponents have merit in opposing gravel pit?

It wasn't "zoned for mining" or they would not have to be seeking a conditional use permit. It is likely zoned A1. No, it is not owned by Anon and Sons, so no one is "preventing them from legally using their property."

The people who object to this permit are seeking to preserve the quiet rural lifestyle that they sought when they decided to live there. Some have lived in the area for generations. There are a multitude of environmental considerations that are of concern with this site, due to it's proximity to wildlife areas and watersheds.

Sand and gravel is not a rare commodity in Wisconsin. It can be found on other sites, also. This appears to me to be an example of a landowner and a company from a neighboring county attempting to make a ton of money at the expense of the people who live in the area. The residents need to voice their concerns on this issue.

This is the normal legal process that allows objections to be voiced and then a decision will be made whether to allow it or not.

On To tattoo, or not to tattoo?

Posted on February 9 at 2:50 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

People can get tattoos if they want, it is legal to do so.

There is a stigma that goes with having tatoos, they are popular in prisons, popular in the drug culture, hookers adorn themselves with them, and yes the carnies sure used to have a lot of them.

I know people who wish they would not have got their tatoos, they are pretty much stuck with them. If I was looking to hire an employee, I would not hire one with any visible tatoos, nor would I hire a male with earrings or other adorments sticking out of their body. But people can get all the tatoos they want, it is their right.

The D.A. requested the talks with Walker. Walker agreed because this would sound better than waiting for the subpoena that would have been coming.

John, you do attract the bottom feeders here. They make it very distastful to read and participate in any discussion on your blogs. Some people are apparently not intelligent enough to realize that they don't have to read your blog if they don't like what you write. I have pretty much decided to not bother reading a couple of bloggers on Gazzetextra, and it improved my life. I will continue to read yours, perhaps the Gazette can figure out a way to keep the garbage off of here. It would not be censorship, they are not contributing, they are simply spewing feces all over, it is the best they can do.

On Process to raise price of snow emergency ticket to begin

Posted on February 4 at 1:25 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Having vehicles in the street makes it hard to plow the street, it makes a narrow spot that will get worse with each snowfall and plowing.

People need to get their vehicles off the street during snow emergencies or pay the fine. Why should everyone else have to put up with substandard street conditions because someone is too cheap or too lazy to move their vehicle? The fine should be much more, $100-$200 with jail time for not paying. This would wake up even the cheapest and most lazy.

"He said he hopes he never has to use the gun, but feels he needs it given the toxic atmosphere at the state Capitol, adding he’s not the only lawmaker packing in the chamber."

They are afraid of the people that they represent. This is usually an indication of the "rulers" doing grievous injustices to the people.
