Here's something to think about:
Someone that works in the private sector pays an income tax. Someone who works in the public sector also pays an income tax. It's not a different rate between the two. So those of you that complain about your tax money paying these people their salaries and benefits don't seem to realize that those public sector employees are essentially giving that money right back. Do you return part of your paycheck to your employer every payday? Think about that.

etownguy - The current building is past the renovation stage. Not to mention the fact that the builing is landlocked. I think the cost of trying to renovate wouldn't really be less than the new building. Having new facilities along with the partnership with SSM will really help the hospital be able to provide many new services they aren't capable of providing now.

I am glad that I'm not the only one to point out the flaws of Consumer Reports. Why don't you actually check out other vehicles instead of buying one because "Consumer Reports said it is good." Try a little research over reading some biased publication.

Almost forgot, the reason America has become the Middle Management of the world is because of the attitudes of many people posting on here. What happened to the days when people were proud to build something with their hands and elbow grease rather than hold a chair to the floor in a cubicle? I guess I'll never understand.

They care about quality! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! They care about profit and could give a d@#$ about quality. I totally agree that The Big 2.5 made some awful vehicles in the 70's - 80's. However things have changed greatly. Check out a car enthusiast magazine and you'll see all of the great reviews Ford and GM are getting. Better yet, take a drive in a new American made care. I'm willing to bet that you'll change your tune. Remember, Consumer Reports does not a good source of automobile research make!

The reason Fire is dispatched along with EMS is for the extra manpower. The majority of ambulances have a crew of 2. When dealing with injuries, especially severe ones, the extra help is a necessity. Every Firefighter in Janesville is also an EMT-Basic at a minimum. There are certaing steps that have to be taken to correctly immobilize and transport someone that can't be done with only 2 people. Many times people don't need to be transported and they can refuse care. Engines are also dispatched to block the emergency scene to protect those that are there from rubberneckers who are very likely to crash into the scene because they can't mind their own business.
The other part of this is that anything that is for sale to the Fire Service cost 3 times as much as the same product for "civilian use." Unfortunately regular tax revenue doesn't cover these costs. This extra charge is not new for a lot of Fire Departments. It has become a necessary evil to keep taxes from increasing.

916 - The newer models don't have keys anymore. It's a push button ignition system and it works a little differently. By the way, you seem like the type that only reads Consumer Reports when researching vehicle info. The bad thing is that CR is heavily biased towards foreign vehicles. Try Motor Trend or Car and Driver. They are showing that domestic products have made leaps and bounds in build quality. This whole 'I only buy foreign' motto is the result of bad information along with a few bad buys. I'm not saying either side is perfect but it's worth taking a look back at what this country can build.

I'll be voting yes. If you would actually talk to the people on the board you may receive the right information.
