On Mattress store opening in Janesville

Posted on February 5 at 1:15 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

It must be a "green" thing. The city planners take the green out of our pockets to fund low income jobs which are non manufacturing and comply with the green agenda. I suppose a mattress store will provide a lot of "mattress potatoes" with plenty of leisure, therefore, reducing the carbon dioxide emitted by human activity. Mattress firms could actually save the world and reduce the carbon footprint of every individual provided they hang up their bikes, turn off the heater, and embrace a vegan lifestyle. Perhaps, we could advertise Janesville as a true bedroom community? Being the "City of Parks" sounds nice but it doesn't seem to be attracting much in the way of good paying wages or tourism of any sort.

On Climate and the culture war

According to Mr. Gerson: "Investigations of hacked emails have revealed evidence of frustration—and perhaps of fudging but not of fraud." Hmmmmm, so should we disrupt the lifestyles of this entire planet because of the scientist's THEORIES based on a little fudging? Theories are not conclusive, nor are they facts. "Fudging" is not truth. What is truth about the entire greening of the planet is that those in power who would inflict this fallacy on an unsuspecting population has decided that they are exempt from all the new rules and regulations coming out of the EPA, who answers to ICLEI. Did Al Gore give up his private jet and mansion for the cause? Do your own digging regarding ICLEI. Also, do your own digging regarding the UN Agenda 21. Compare the aspirations and the missions of both agencies with UN Agenda 21. Just as our congressmen have exempted themselves from insider trading prosecution, you can bet that they got the "heads up" and positioned themselves to profit from the Carbon Tax (Cap and Trade) with Al Gore as their architect. After those emails were uncovered and publicized, Gore was and still is toast, those who latched onto his coat tails, suddenly want us to forget they were on his bandwagon. This article is coming straight from Washington; need I say more?

On Former Menards location has been vacant since 2008

Labeler80. I love your reply. With all these Pay Day Loans and Car Title Loan Stores on Milton Ave., we could relable the Milton Ave. shopping corridor "Janesville's Financial District". To keep Mr. Price's vision of a Mixed Use property for the vacant Menards, we could have another Pay Day Loan store to finance the visit to the bar next door, then go to the Car Title Loan Store to pay the Auto Parts Store for parts to keep the "beater" running so that we can go to work to get the next Pay Day Loan. Oh, and don't forget to pack in another recycled clothing store and another Dollar Store. We need threads to go to work. Of course, all of this shopping is dependent on keeping the taxes, fees, permits, etc., low. When the casino opens in Beloit, guess where Janesville inhabitants will be spending their money?

On Signatures of ninth Janesville City Council candidate verified

Posted on January 8 at 12:51 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I think Mr. Zimdar deserves to be heard as all candidates should. I would like to know where or if we can see all the candidates debate the issues concerning the needs of Janesville as well as a little more investigative reporting on the city council decisions such as: where will the money go from savings for not having to remove snow this year? How will the City Council determine where it will be spent, why and when? So many questions that need to be answered. This year we have a multitude of newcomers to the field of candidates and I would like to hear what they all have to say......not skewed by the Gazette, its journalists, or its small core of bloggers but by a debate with direct questions and answers by the constituency. I find that the Gazette is shirking its duty to inform the public by not covering the most basic of questions in any journalistic piece such as: what, how, when, where, and why? It's election coverage is scant and mostly contains statements by the candidates, allowing bloggers to do what is primarily the Gazette's job by allowing for many partisan bloggers to disseminate information which may or may not be correct or totally truthful and allowing the candidate to be "lynched" in this, the only public forum.

Elections are very important; example at hand is that several council members are running for higher office. If we want quality at the top, it must begin at the bottom.

On Edgerton Hospital completes transition to its new facility

This is great news. They really needed an updated facility and I wish them great success in their new home. We've been going to the old facility for years for cardiology. They have one of the best cardiologists (Wisconsin Heart) from Meriter in Madison who sees patients at the Edgerton Hospital and the rest of the Edgerton staff is top notch.

poobah. What a great experiment this is. It is typical to receive the attack from you and fear at the same time. Is it coincidence? Can I make that assumption from your comments convoluting or taking things out of context for things that I wrote? Gee, I don't remember condoning any illegal acts. I just won't assume that it was illegal until I have facts. You now speak for Mr. Meinert? You say you believe he wouldn't want me to defend him? Am I to take your beliefs as gospel?

Fear. I suppose it is OK for some Americans to commit illegal acts and not get incarcerated as fear tells Teaparty Sal? I will assume that, also. My goodness, I wonder why it took so long. You attacked Mr. Meinert, you attacked Teapartysal and now me by using your typical tactics when you can't get agreement. I never claimed to be a legal scholar, either; you're starting with the name calling again. It causes you to show your true colors when others use the same tactics and goad you to blow up. My experiment is now concluded. I suppose you will both be working the blog viciously during the election season. I look forward to seeing you there. "Discussion", and I use that word loosely, is ended. We are now at the attack phase. It's been a blast. LOL.

Actually, when one gets sensitized to a situation, one can tell by subtle differences. I was on a bus in a foreign country (not Mexico) and one of the other riders, a native, pronounced in her native tongue, that she could smell an American and rolled her eyes in my direction. Actually, it was quite funny because they figured I couldn't understand their language (I was there to soak up their local culture fresh off of college language courses). Speaking to the natives in their language really embarrassed them, (note that they didn't say Frenchman, German, etc.) they explained that they assess someone who is not a native by several assessments: smell, shoes, watches and other accessories. Just as the country I visited has developed their own sense of who is native and who is foreign after years of being inundated with tourists, it is common when you live with threats of invasion as in any war to develop a heightened sensitivity to discern between friend and foe. Do I think it is wrong? Lord, no. It is a natural mechanism for self preservation. Mr. Meinert does not inflict harm on these individuals, he just made a comment about his ability for observation. He is concerned because he lives on the border with Mexico. My reason for going to these presentations is for information regarding illegal immigration from ANY country. Our southern border is an issue. Not only Mexicans are coming in and to choose such tiny little gems from his presentation to dilute and discredit the entire presentation serves no purpose.

There you go again. That video was from Madison. I was there. I will repeat that I was there. I did not sit at home and view a video. The activists were out in force and ready to target Mr. Meinert. You really must consider the venue when you watch these videos. That he was presenting in Madison is the critical piece. Madison activists do not reflect the thoughts of the entire population of Wisconsin and are notable for their disruption of any discussion which does not concur with their view. In comparison, the presentation in Janesville was tame. People politely listened. They afforded Mr. Meinert the courtesy of allowing him to present his material and drew their own conclusions as was evident in the question and answer period following the presentation.
As for Mr. Meinert crossing into Mexico. I defend his action until I know a few more important facts (again, I want to hear facts). He was doing nothing more than documenting what is happening at our southern border. He did not stay, he did not emigrate illegally. He just gathered the information we, otherwise, would not see. I fail to equate your comparison. Many US citizens cross into Mexico every day for vacations, business, shopping, and yes, for photos. My impression is that he was worried about the Cartels. Most people who live in border states have passports. That he could have been there illegaly never crossed my mind and I will not consider it until I am fully aware with factual information that he was there illegally. I will make no assumptions, nor will I be duped into believing in subtle allusions and assumptions on the part of any other.

I have read the discussion, or rather the bullying, of those on this blog who would knit pick and badger anyone who was in favor of this presentation. Trying to vilify any group including "old white men" is particularly offensive to me as I respect everyone's parents and grandparents and what they have to say. Then, there was a comment about this presentation having no place in Janesville. Excuse me.....but I cannot agree that shutting down any voice in this county is appropriate, whether or not you like it. The witch hunt and the repetition of certain views has turned me off. Teapartysal has been targeted just because of her name. Mr. Meinert is being targeted because he has presented his findings to groups which a few have decided are not worthy of having a voice or opinion. As I see it, this conversation has been nothing more than an effort to try to shut down conversation about a subject which is not addressed enough through media outlets. It is not anyone's right to tell me that I should or shouldn't see a presentation or what I should think about it. I applaud the silent majority out there who went to this presentation and took away a new understanding of exactly what is occurring on our borders. Nothing any of the nay sayers have said has convinced me otherwise but it has given me a glimpse of their real intent which is to dominate this conversation and steer it away from actual conversation about Illegal entry of people from many nations into our country. Illegal = unlawful = against the law. No racism here. We defend countries around the world, yet, the US prefers to grope our citizens at airports rather than defend our northern and southern borders.

Perhaps, when it is completed in Janesville, I won't have to spend so much time and gas money traveling to and from Madison (especially in bad weather). It's a great hospital.
