On 18-year-old found dead in cemetery

Posted on September 16 at 5:33 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Readers:

Once again, I would like all of you to THINK BEFORE you write on the blogs.

I happened to have watched this young man perform in many plays and after the last play the director just beamed about what a wonderful young man he was...in fact, they used to quote "What would (insert his name) do?" Whenever they would have a question about what to do, wrong or right.

As always, these are real people with real hurts and there are many breaking hearts today over this tragic loss....including many teens who just graduated with him and loved him dearly. They are all really hurting and you will add to their loss with your insensitive words.

For those of you who knew him personally.......I am sorry for you loss. I would hope that when all is said and done that this would be a moment that you decide to take your loss and remember "What would () do?" You can take your loss and make this world a better place. And instead of growing bitter, you grow better. You can teach others to be kind and loving and to reach out to someone when they are really hurting, so that there will not be another tragic loss of a very loved young man.

Sincerely,

Someone who cares

On Let's discuss people in poverty, not attack

Posted on September 2 at 9:26 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Editor Scott:

When I saw the pictures on the story with the beer cans in the background and some of the wording in the story I winced. I knew that there would be attacks on this woman because of those two things.

I will say it again as I have repeatedly said on here: People hide behind their "blog names" and say things they would never say in person. If everyone would just keep thinking about how these are REAL people behind these stories, they wouldn't be so apt to attack.

I am glad that you brought this to our attention, as most people don't realize that this is an issue (poverty) in this town.

I would like to give you another issue that I have written to your staff about and have not read anything about it in your paper:

What about the children who have been removed from their homes (through CHIPS child in need of protecive services) and are sitting over at the Juvy detention center, due to NO fault of their own? There are not enough Foster families in our county so this is where some of the kids end up at.........check it out, Scott...it is true!

Intereseting comments here....

Cougar21, I agree. We need to know that our elected officials are cracking down hard on these crimes.

I have sat in Mr. Folts office, and have been told that our county (Rock) is very lenient on these kinds of crimes. This shouldn't be.

I have sat in on "Prevent child abuse" seminars and have been told that the key to kids not being abused anymore is for ADULTS to understand how a sexual predator "works."

He/she could be "your favorite teacher/relative/clergy" etc...etc....

I have given the link to this before, and I will do it again. This is an excellent article written by a lady I learned much from. When I googled the internet for more information, this article came up that was written by her. Everyone needs to read her words!

On Husband taken at gunpoint

If you have read all the articles on this subject, you understand a couple of things better.

1. The Police did follow procedures and took him to be evaluated.

2. by law, evidently he could go after an evaluation.

Guess what is wrong here? The law that says he can not be forcibly detained for 3 days AT LEAST after a threat has been made to himself or others.

A young lady is dead because of laws that are not strict enough to protect her....and she is dead because of a tremendously horrible thing that happened at the hands of her own husband.

Sometimes when I read the blogs I wonder where all the common sense has gone in this world? How in the world we can blame the police for this one, I just don't understand.

CougarMom: Your comments have NOTHING to do with the topic.

And guess what? I DO volunteer in the community......helping with this very topic......KEEPING OUR KIDS SAFE. Do you?

Your ignorance on this topic, is unbelievable to me.

You need to inform yourself.

Hugh: I didn't respond to your posts because they were so far fetched that one of them the Gazette staff saw fit to remove.

Facts are facts and that is all we are talking about on here. He was fired for being inappropriate. Fitting. And he has no one to blame but himself.

Officer---it is the same old tatic that is used a lot. You believe that if you can discredit the speaker (ie..not a police officer, or I don't work in this field) then it gives more validity to what copper is saying.

I just think that people still really can't grasp the inappropiateness of Mr. Torkilson's boundary crossing.

Take two steps back people, and think about your child being the focal point of the SCHOOL JANITOR. Boundary issues here, rules and safety standards that are set up to protect the children and the staff were breached. He lost his job. That was appropriate.
