On School board to decide fate of middle school classes

Posted on May 24 at 10:49 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Ice - Single gender education does NOT exclude "problem students". It is a cross section of all students. My child is an 8th grader and has been in single gender classes all three years at Marshall. He loves it and believes he wouldn't have done as well in school had it not been for this program. He has also been inspired by some very talented, caring teachers in this program. I believe many students use school choice because of the single gender opportunity at Marshall - but I have not gotten any hard data on it. I do know of one family who thought they would not be able to use school choice to attend Marshall so they sold their home and moved into the Marshall boundaries so their child could participate in it! I really hope they do not end this program.

NCC1701 - No, I am not married to Mike Sheridan. Not sure why that matters, but there is the answer to your question.

Beth, my son is going to LOVE this blog! When he was about 10 he wanted to open a restaurant and call it "Everything Bacon". Apparently there are many people with this fascination for bacon...

Have to agree with Jamie here - book first - always! Two of my favorites are "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown, and "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks.

Gina,

Thank you for being a mentor and THANK YOU for sharing how it benefits both you and the child. Hopefully this will move others into action.

My husband has been a police officer for many years. I do not listen to the scanner. I would rather hear what happens in town AFTER he is safe at home with me.

On Volunteering is a full-time job

My family volunteers in the community. I also encourage my children to volunteer with me when possible. I feel it is so important to teach our children that doing something for someone else and expecting nothing in return is one of the best feelings in the world.

We live in a great community with many people who enjoy sharing their time and talents with others. These volunteers never expect anything in return but I challenge you to say "thank you" to the next person you see volunteering in our community. It is nice to hear that you are appreciated every once in awhile.

Steve, I appreciate your honesty in this post.
