On How will mining bill help Wisconsin?

Posted on February 7 at 12:45 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Retired Airforce--so, anti-mine types should live by their word and not use products that have come from mine components.

OK. You don't like government programs. So, I suggest you stop using your government issued retirement account (assuming that you are, in fact, a retired airforce service person...)

On Governor to meet with district attorney

Volunteering to meet sounds better than waiting for the subpoena to appear infront of the special prosecutor.

On Legislation would benefit off-duty cops

Thanks Joe, for keeping the legislature focused on jobs and growing the economy.

(yes sarcasm)

On Walker: Education proposals to soon be introduced

Posted on January 20 at 5:12 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

@retiredairforce (retired public employee) you need to do more research as well. State statutes as well as the constitution provide specific duties and authority to the state superintendent. In fact, back in the 1990s when gov. Thompson tried to circumvent the state supterintendent and mess with education issues in Wis., the supreme court smacked him (Tommy) unanimously back to his corner.

On GOP-backed bill on sex ed headed for Assembly vote

Posted on January 18 at 7:58 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

The previous law that this will overturn only required that if a district was to provide sex ed, then it needed to emphasize abstinence as the safest route, but also provide comprehensive medically accurate information on protection and disease prevention. It also allowed foe a parental opt out, and I will say it again, it NEVER required any district to teach sex ed.

This proposed law change had hundreds of people/groups opposing (including State medical society) and only two lobbying groups for it. The repugnicans just don't get it...this is shirt-sighted legislation.

On State updates travel information system

Hope the improvements to the system help. Since it started, I could be sitting stopped in traffic on the interstate, or the beltline in Madison, have someone check the 511 line or site and 99% of the time got "All clear, no slow downs or traffic issues reported."

On State's largest wind farm in service

Posted on December 20 at 3:33 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Goodness--just look at all those WI companies involved in creating that wind farm...companies that employ people...and Gov. Walker, who claims to want WI open for business, has effectively shut down future wind farm development with his proposed rules.

Hmmm. (read this to learn more about investment and jobs lost because of his efforts http://www.journaltimes.com/news/opinion...)

On Number of poor students on the rise in most Walworth County districts

@freebird. Such flawed thinking.

$28,041 low teacher salary in Janesville for 2010-11

$68,194 highest teacher salary in Janesville for 2010-11.

And really, stop with the red herring argument about only working 9 months. They work infinitely longer and harder and are more dedicated than you can imagine. Think not? You try teaching a classroom for a day and see how you do.

@916WI--be careful how you use data. More recent NAEP test data shows the overall, WI continues to score better than the nation in reading scores:

In reading, Wisconsin fourth-graders had a scale score of 221, one point higher than in 2009 though statistically the same as state results from 2003 through 2009 as well as this year’s national reading scale score of 220. At eighth grade, Wisconsin’s reading scale score was 267, also one-point higher than in 2009 but statistically unchanged. For the nation’s public school students, the eighth-grade reading scale score was 264. Wisconsin’s eighth-grade reading scale score is statistically higher than the national score.

Ah, Donnaw, GE has been s@r#w*n& the american tax payer long before Obama was even a Senator from Illinois...

But one thing is for sure, with child poverty rates going up fast here in WI, it is very SHORTSIGHTED by Scooter Walker and his GOP cronies and Koch financiers to have cut so much $ from education. We'll be paying for that decision long into the future...
